That is a high bar to set. I'd be surprised if initial game reaches it, maybe re-releases down the line push it over.

The best fighting game with the best graphics this gen deservers to flop? |
While it may currently have the best graphics for a fighting game this gen it is not the best. SSB Wii U and KI are currently better than it is. And to be honest I am thinking Tekken 7 will be better when it comes out as well. To be honest SFV was a let down and not what the fans wanted. capom just seems like they threw SFV together without any real care. Still a fun game but the quality if not what is used to be....as with most Capcom games smh.

If you separate all releases and ignore the sales of ports, then yes.
It's the only one to make it on its own. FF15 will get multiple ports in a few years, so it'll have some increased momentum.
And honestly, for something with 10+ years of development, I'm surprised it's not a higher number.

Considering this game is likely going to be ported to every toaster in the multiverse, it will most likely reach it.

This isn't surprising at all lol. 10+ years of development, big open world, superb graphics, and it'll basically have to singlehandedly recoup the dev cost for the Luminous engine as well. Of course it has a high budget.

It would be great if it managed to sell that many copies, but I can't imagine it matters a great deal. When a game is in development for that long, you can be pretty sure that you are almost certainly going to make a loss overall. That money for all those years of stagnation have gone now, so all that matters is it sells well and makes SE a lot of money in the present, and gets the franchise on a firm footing going forward.
It all boils down to reviews. If it is truly AAA I don/t see why it wouldn't. If it has some issues as FFXIII had, get ready for sub 5 million numbers this time around.
Vote the Mayor for Mayor!
I just stayed up to watch the reveal and downloaded the demo.
I have never played a FF game, yet I have been a gamer since before I can remember... 4 years of age, I guess!
This will be my first FF and I have great faith in it after the amazing reveal and the amount of world / culture building they are doing!
