Forums - Sony Discussion - Evolution Studios Closed

Unlike what happened to Lionhead, this news is not surprising at all.

The UK government is a joke and has done nothing to help UK studios, they are more to blame than the ''failure'' of Driveclub.

The Lionhead closing wasnt surprising when you consider their output since Fable 3. Fable Legends was bad as well based on the beta.

I thought Evolution was gonna stick around because Driveclub sold pretty well.

What's going on in the UK? Time to throw all game developers out of the country?

Hopefully the VR version will still happen. I still play DC daily. A 40 minute 25 lap race on Sinclair pass while the sun sets and several rainstorms pass by is sublime.

Best of luck.

This sucks... Driveclub was awesome!

very sad to hear it, really liked DC

I think a lot of people forget that although DC sold well, it sold at budget price mostly. I got it on release for £35. Most new games are £45.

It wasn't soon after release people were selling it for £20-25.

So there is still hope for Driveclub VR (yes I know it's a bit insensitive but I would love a VR update). Anyway dick move from Sony to held a requitment event before closing evolution to aquire lion head staff. Hopefully they find new jobs soon.

Different skill sets. You wouldn't hire Evolution to make Uncharted and you wouldn't hire ND to make Driveclub. Sony will have hired staff they need for certain projects. No doubt they'll hire some of Evolution for GT Sport.

People from evolution could 100% work on uncharted and ND people could 100% work on Driveclub

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

This is just surprising to me. The game was constantly getting attention and everyone who stuck with it loved it.

I'm not even into racing games and I really enjoyed this game. Was looking forward to using it with the PSVR which I heard it supported. Hope that's still the case.

I guess not enough people bought the 21 DLC packs LOL

Nah I'm just messing around. Obviously the closing of any gaming studio is sad news and I did enjoy DriveClub for what it was

100% correctr.

The only differenece here is the spin that certain supporters or fans want to put on the message.  The end result for employees of these two companies is identical... they lost their jobs.

We need to get over this MS = evil, Sony = cuddly pal of the planet and puppies.

I wonder if Turn 10 is hiring. MS could pull off a good deed here just like Big Brother Sony!

Tax breaks for gaming development were reintroduced in 2014 actually.

They were but the point system for getting those tax breaks means its not as straight forward as it is in other countries like Canada, you have to be working on something "British"
