Forums - Gaming - Curious About Final Fantasy Franchise. Where to Start?

I'd say go buy Final Fantasy VII off of the PS Store. Good a place as any to start.

My advice is the same advice I give anyone who hasn't played any franchise. Start with the first and work your way through them as they released. It's the only way you can appreciate the franchise as much as the rest of us who did the same thing. Going out of order will forever taint your ability to objectively critique each game.

Considering the recent HD ports, I'd say VII or X would be the easiest to jump into right now. I'd also say IV, VI, & IX are pretty safe bets for someone not familiar with the franchise.

Actually Final Fantasy's franchise have over 12 main games non-MMORPG (the 13 main game non-RPG, Final Fantasy XV, is coming this year), and more than 87 Games counting Main-games and Spin-offs.

Curious About Final Fantasy Franchise. Where to Start?

Since no Final Fantasy game are linked story-wise, or character-wise, this question makes no sense. If you're looking for which good Final Fantasy to play, then you already know the answer to this. As some have said FFVII is the most popular. FFVI is the one that is most popular to people who stopped playing Final Fantasy. FFIX is the most popular to people who like weird anime creatures. FFX is the "last great Final Fantasy", and everything else is "meh" at best. Take your pick. But, if you can, avoid FFXIII and its sequels.

I would say VII is probably one of the best starting points. As a beginner, the first 3-4 hours ease you into the mechanics whilst also being quite story heavy to get you hooked. The PS4 version is also a very good version of the game.

After that I'd recommend playing IV, VI, VIII, IX and X in whatever order you feel.

I'd avoid XIII like the plague.

The most important thing to remember about Final Fantasy is that each entry is different. Don't expect the same thing every time.

You have to form your own opinion for each. Don't listen to anyone who says don't play "XXX" because it might end up being your favorite.

The english rom of Final Fantasy V.

Best gameplay in the series. And very easy to get into.
If you're more of a story guy, then VII.

I LOVE ICELAND!

I'd say ff9, the game is pretty much a "classic" ff and the game looks pretty good even to this day.
