If that were the case, games like Skylanders would sell far better on Wii U than they do.

Skylanders supercharged is selling better on the wii u than any other console (despite being third party and wii u's install base). In fact, that's the only third party IP Nintendo feels is worthwhile working with

Skylanders on Wii U still surpassed in sales by even moderately performing fan-oriented fare like Pikmin 3 or Monster Hunter Tri.

1) third party

2) few months of sales vs few years of sales

Superchargers had extra content exclusive to Nintendo consoles (Bowser and Donkey Kong Skylanders/amiibo). In fact, the only way to get those amiibo is if you buy the game (which is something collectors will do).

Interesting, I wonder why Tropical Freeze underperformed so much, it's a great game that deserves to sell much more than it has

Whether it's fair or not, I think Tropical Freeze still carries the stigma of being a game most Nintendo fans didn't ask for from Retro when it debuted and that resentment/disappointment may have led to lower sales.  Based on quality alone, it should have sold at least 2 million by now.

I have a feeling that cause of this situation might be the art style and character. Brands does matter.

What's your point? Skylanders superchargers won't sell massive quantities because of amiibo. It sold a lot because it appeals to a young audience (the majority of the wii u's install base.

Damn shame. Tropical freeze is still the better game.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Superchargers didn't sell a lot on any console... 290k is a lot now for a game that won't have much legs?

Monster Hunter Tri is third party also, and Skylanders Giants and Swap Force have also been out for years, but have not sold as much as Monster Hunter.

Skylanders swap force and trap team are almost at monster hunter tri sales. Unfortunately for skylanders, it can cannibalizes it's own sales with annual releases, however skylanders as a series is significantly greater on the wii u than monster hunter. Skylanders is the only third party up to have nintendo exclusive support whereas monster hunter 4 wasn't ported to the wii u. Big reason for this

It's definitely a good amount considering

1) it hasn't been too long

2) legs aren't the best but they are there

3) the game sells figures(toys) for activision
