Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Woolly World on track to outsell Tropical Freeze

wooly world appears to be overtracked by quite a bit in the US. At least we know the tropical freeze numbers aren't that far off.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Monster Hunter Tri is third party also, and Skylanders Giants and Swap Force have also been out for years, but have not sold as much as Monster Hunter.

Skylanders swap force and trap team are almost at monster hunter tri sales. Unfortunately for skylanders, it can cannibalizes it's own sales with annual releases, however skylanders as a series is significantly greater on the wii u than monster hunter. Skylanders is the only third party up to have nintendo exclusive support whereas monster hunter 4 wasn't ported to the wii u. Big reason for this

Not a single Skylanders game on Wii U has sold as much as Monster Hunter Tri or Pikmin 3 so far. If kids were a majority on Wii U, they'd be eclipsing these kind of games. But they don't, because the average Wii U owner is a 20-something or 30-something Nintendo fan.

Superchargers didn't sell a lot on any console... 290k is a lot now for a game that won't have much legs?

It's definitely a good amount considering

1) it hasn't been too long

2) legs aren't the best but they are there

3) the game sells figures(toys) for activision

Guess which ones are the most popular on Wii U?

Skylanders is practically dead.

If skylanders wasn't a yearly third party release (instead releasing just one title that doesn't compete with itself), I bet it would cross the million mark by now.

But ok, let's instead take splatoon. The market for that is without a doubt for kids. Can't be for Nintendo fans since it is a new ip. This is the kind of games that kids want, and sales show it.

Popularity isn't important, profitability is. But that's beside the poiby, skylanders sold a respectable amount (which also sells figures). Regardless of whether it is more popular than amiibo does not matter

Skylanders bombed and my point is that the Bowser and Donkey Kong Supercharger bundles sold the most. Without these bundles the game would've sold even worse on the Wii U. Skylanders is selling less year after year and it's losing the toys to life battle.

You seem to not get the idea that losing the toys to life battle =/= non profitable. Skylanders is doing the best on the wii u (it's been on an upward trend each year on the wii u without dk and bowser). So no, it's not a bomb. It's doing well thanks to the younger wii u audience. The same that supports yoshis wooly world over dk

Selling 290k is a bomb. It barely sold better than the last-gen versions. Minecraft sold a shit ton on PS4, it must be because of all those kids. You do realize there are many kids out there that play CoD and what not right?

290k is not a bomb if it outweighs the production costs. Skylanders isn't exactly the most demanding or visually innovative. It shouldn't take that much to make.

get out of this mentality that everything needs to sell a crap ton to sell well. Some games are budgeted better than you think.

as for kids playing cod, maybe 13 year olds, but the crowd of kids populating the wii u are approximately 10 and lower. Kids that don't try to play cod to be "hardcore"
