Forums - Nintendo - My NX logo video, explanation for system being called, "Nintendo Infinite", controller ideas, etc.

I still think Nintendo should call it Nintendo Entertainment System.

I don't think any company will ever name a system "infinity". Think about it, you could never top that! Infinity +1 is still infinity. So the successor wouldn't sound superior at all. I mean that's something to keep in mind, isn't it?

NX is just the code name. Nintendo never uses the code name in the final product.

Though I like your ideas.

And the DS?

Well DS was one of the initial names of that handheld was called during developement it was also called the Nintendo Nitro, check any DS system or Game, starting letters are NTR- to reflect the dev name more so than the end product consumer name, much like all the Gamecube stuff having DOL- and Wii having REV- to reflect Dolphin and Revolution respectively.

Kicking it old school is an entertaining thought for sure.

Do you like the way the logo looks?  I could see NX becoming Infinite...I mean, as a possibility at least.  But I know what you mean about NX 2, NX, or Infinite 2, Infinite 3, etc. and how they could sound one way.  On the other hand, what if the console itself was infinitely expandable with actual system upgrades?  That's going into PC territory though, which isn't likely to happen with a home console, but still...NX to the power of "insert a number", making it squared, cubed, etc., could make for some future fine logos/branding.  I see your point as well.

Or maybe it just be called Infinite, just once, and then Nintendo would move on.  A good brand name that would stick around for generations to come might not be a bad thing though.

That would branding would be more headscratching than Xbox 1.

Why? In case you can't choose between the original and the new one in stores? lol

NES is a great name, and Nintendo Entertainment System is a simple and elegant way to sums up what Nintendo is all about. We know the NX is more than a machine, it's also a development environment that spread through multiple platforms, so the NES name would just be perfect.

Thanks a lot. My Paul Gale Network logo started off with just pen and paper and then went to Microsoft Paint, before turning into what it is now.  I think that seeing my proposed NX Infinite logo be made all slick and whatnot could look really nice.  Especially if animated well!

Some of the ideas were actually really interesting. But I think Nintendo aims in cost savings and sell a 99 console for 250 rather than selling a 250 console for 350. Nintendo's strategy (as hinted by Iwata) was to be "all" the devices, so that was one aspect you didn't address.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Thanks a lot.  Yeah...pricing is one of the most important things when it comes to the debut of a console.  It definitely has to feel like you're worth getting what you're paying for.  If NX Home is really a cutting edge piece of tecnology that's far beyond the power of PS4 and Xbox One and comes out for $350-$375 and acts truly as a 9th gen machine, I'd be very happy.  Likewise, I'd be cool if NX Portable was a $200 or $175 platform, if the power level was comparable to Wii U.  The pairing of the two for $500 would be a nice deal, though not exactly cheap.  It would make it the same price as Xbox One with Kinect back in 2013, but still less than the $600 PS3 model back in 2006.  Heck...if Big N packed in a main entry Mario game that ran on both systems, and the whole package of all that was $500...that'd be really great in my opinion.
