It's windows 7. When I switch inputs on my amp, windows 7 thinks it needs to switch back to the monitor, which is not connected.  Windows 7 then resizes the desktop to 640x480 (or something stupid low, safe mode res). When I switch back to the pc it restores the resolution and output, yet all windows are bunched in the top left corner. Some games don't survive this forced resolution change.
I'll upgrade to win 10 some day, that will probably fix it. Until then, save game first before switching.

If you're confident with changing the registry you could give a look at the answer found in

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/windows-7-movesresizes-windows-on-monitor-power/1653aafb-848b-464a-8c69-1a68fbd106aa?auth=1

It envolves changing what windows jumps to as the "go to" resolution inside the registry so if you set that to the default which you want to use all the time it might prevent it from changing when you switch the audio output on the amp you use (I'm guessing you use hdmi audio to the amp?) it could be worth a look.

!!!! Keep in mind that changes to the registry happen live, ie as soon as you input the change it will take effect and wont have a "are ya sure this is the resolution you want" type of pop-up message, so either make a backup of the registry before going into it and changing stuff or alternatively, don't go into it and change stuff if you're not confident.

Hope you get something outta the link tho!

(if that doesn't solve it and you want more IT support can always gimme a pm, tis what I do for a living)

Thanks. For some reason there are 7 different configs in those graphics settings. I changed the 2 simulated ones to 1920x1080. It was 1024x768. I'll find out next time if it worked. I connect the PC to my amp indeed, so when I switch to a different device my amp shuts down the connection to the pc.

That PC is on the way out anyway. It occasionaly fails shortly after booting with a machine stop error. Some interrupt that doesn't arrive in time. It usually works after a second or on one occasion, three boot attempts and is fine once it's running. At least all the data is safe.

Well not everything on the PC is free to play online once you pay the initial cost of the game, you have things like WoW which cost €13 per month to continue accessing their online service, or games like LoL which is "free" for most people but there are boosters and addons to buy for it to the point where the game service isn't just being payed for i.e. development and bandwidth but also the company makes a rather nice profit from a game which is "100% free".

Private servers say hello ;o

I've played private servers for both Ragnarok Online and WoW (RO which is now F2P but wasnt before)  - sure the population and the exp rates/drop rates are different - its still the same game :P

Anyways MMOs are bleh :O

Piracy shouldn't be listed as a + for either side really, while PC emulators are very much a thing if you have a modded console you can equally do the same as long as there is a big enough community of people to port the emulators over. I've played FF7 on my Wii for example or Secret of Mana from the Snes on my Dreamcast.

Actually one of the best things I had for emulation before was the original Xbox with a setup of Mame in it, was a great little arcade machine replacement! ofc all of these can be done with a PC, but equally when you go into the realms of illegal software both sides gain advantages.

Not saying emulation should be considered a + for the topic at hand , but if you think about it - the PC is the best platform for emulation more than any other platform (as much as I love the emulation on PSP). The fact that you can actually modify games more on PC with all sorts of plugins, etc - makes the PC platform at least in terms of emulation the best platform for that exact reason.

On the private servers side of things what I would be more annoyed about being missing is the enemy or boss AI I've seen a popular up to date Cata server but with zero blizzard AI on boss's was just pointless to play, definately not the same game.

Emulation is best on the PC, but still, pirating Xbox360 games is best on a modded 360, can't be used as a + for a system imo when you're breaking the law to do it, just my opinion. But yeah agree PC emulators are great.

"Uh. No. I do not condone the act of piracy.

You do get free games on PC, which are not hidden by a paywall."

You talk about the PC having access to the complete librarys of older consoles, this is piracy you are talking about. Doesn't matter if the games are old you still have zero rights to access them while they might become available on things like the e-shop or psn/xbla.

It's not piracy. Emulation is 100% legal.

You spent hours on that? How hard is it to move games on the Vita/PS3? Also, moot point with the PS4. Also, if the space bothers you on the PS3, why not change th hard drive?

Given the fact that Sony designed the CMA (content manager assistant) for the Vita to stop any chance of getting pirated isos onto the system as easily as it was with the psp they have made it a very shit process, the transfers have to be done from the Vita side rather than dragging the files onto the systems storage from the PC side of things, given that limited storage with the Vita and some games are 4+gb and include their saves and dlc when moved so it can be 10-20mins for a single game being moved either to or from the PC. (if you don't move the complete game back to the PC when done with it and delete it instead you will lose anything that changed save file wise since it was last uploaded since on the Vita the saves and game files are tied together, delete the game/delete the saves)

I can indeed change the harddrive with the PS3, but I would need to clone the original onto the new drive to not lose my original saves etc. this is still miles away from the convience of a PC where you simply can add as many drives as your case/motherboard and psu can handle.

You can copy your save files from your PS3 to a USB device. Or upload them to the cloud storage.

As for backing up Vita games, you don't have to sit there and watch the files being copied, unlike when you're trying to fix a PC game issue.

The Vita divides Vita/Psp/Psone/Videos/Music all in different pieces of the software to move files to and from it, meaning that if you want to move 3 games to the PC and 3 games to the Vita it can actually be 6 different things you need to put copying not just 1 back and 1 forth just to fight piracy.

Also the PC game you mentioned having issues with was FF7 in 1999, I can assure you things have come along way since that in terms of auto patching issues. Steam handles your PC library rather well for patches.

Emulation as in a program to put the bios and roms of a console into might be legal, as in the actual program that would handle those files.

Ripping the BIOS from a console tho especially something like a SNES is very hard to do and downloading ripped BIOS from the internet is not 100% legal, that console OS software belongs to Nintendo.

As for owning the complete libraries of Roms from those systems.... even if you did have the actual phsical versions of all the games, I still think you aren't legally allowed to back them up onto a PC and play them, emulation of old games isn't legal simple as that, it isn't even a grey area.

I honestly doubt that its hard to copy the AI nor is it a big issue for the millions of players who are playing in different private servers for different MMOs.

Mainly the reasons why people play on private servers is so they dont have to go through grinding as much since rates are increased and because they dont have to pay a subscription.

The main downside to private servers I would say isnt the AI but the fact how often servers update to more recent updates and also stability along with longetivity - playing RO for years has taught me that servers dont last long at least the recent ones but the ones I've joined years ago are still open somehow lol.

Legit if you check for "blizzlike AI servers" on google I think the most up to date version of it is around Wrath of the Lich king, which is 3 expansions of content ago and like you said those private servers don't last forever, unlike the real servers which have a bit more of a duty to mind your data.

Definitely not the same game experience imo, I mean... it is a free way to play but still not the same by a long shot.

Well beats grinding and its great to set up a quick PvP character XD!

I didnt play WoW that much (like lasted 4 weeks?) cause I didnt like it but I did play RO for like 5 years and it was worth it. Got to experience all the MvP raids, PvP and GvG type events. Explored the world within the game too to the fullest which is what I wanted lol.

Never going back since MMOs are pure looping time sinks.

Yeah... I've got 2 years playtime in WoW myself, like... 2 years over the past 10 I've played that game, just taken a step back from being GM a few months ago, far too much work for a game.

Aye best platform to play games on is whichever one has the games you love the most, can't really hold yourself to one platform to get the most out of everything you could be.
