lbp vita is still the best in the franchise.

Really?  I don't have a vita (but want one for its unique jrpg exclusives) so I haven't played it.

What makes that one better?

focus.

no stupid hold x for entire level "races". no top down levels.  no accessive videos of stupid story. just a great focus on on a platformer campain with cool new ideas introduced in each area and fully explaored in unique ways throughout each level in an area.  the story itself had charm and the floaty gameplay had been tightened up.  it is the only real sequel to lbp by most measures.  i was soo happy playing it which made lbp3 all the more disappointing.

The problem with LBP from the beginning, was that it was a neat idea, but the actual engine/physics they gave players to work with, sucked. Building your own custom levels for others to play is neat and all, but who wants to play through side-scrolling gameplay that is floaty as hell? My biggest gripe with it, is that in a platformer, the two things you need to be able to do well, for the game to play well and be fun, is run and jump, and at least in the first LBP (the only one I bothered trying), you could not do those things well.

The first one I bought full price and it was worth it for the co-op in story mode and with user created levels. Two friends spent time actually creating their own levels. I call it a win.

The 2nd one I never beat the story. It was only five bucks though, so I cannot complain. The online levels were better than the first. Partly because I was thinking about the effort that had to go into making them so smooth. Some people really made same cool stuff.

I bought the 3rd for a nephew and beat it co-op with him. It was a little too challenging for a kid I think. We still beat it. I cannot judge it fully until I play the user created stuff. Might never happen.

Better than Mario on the wii. It still might not make my top 30 ps3 games though.

I got the first game for free when the PS3 incident happened. Never liked it in the first place.

It was soooooo. soooooooooo boring. The platforming is too menial, held your hand too much, and far too kiddy for my like. And this is coming from someone that's willing to chug down Nintendo's kiddy motifs in certain games.

Literally the only thing that redeems it are the custom levels, but that's about it and it can only keep me entertained for so long.

The original was a classic, it feels like the type of game that should only be made once a generation. LBP3 was not up to the quality standard set by the original, cross gen hurt it in the visual department and of course being outsourced didn't do it any favours either. I remember the original really blowing me away on the PS3 back when it was revealed in 2007.

Unfortunately yes

Platformers have become niche genre nowadays.

Gamers these days want bloods and gory as their cup of tea than beautiful and cute games

I don't necessarily agree with that. Just look at Splatoon and Yooka-Laylee!

LBP should have been a 1 game per console franchise so each game would feel unique. 3 games being on PS3 alone was a mistake.

I never cared much about LBP. I only played some demo's and it never got me interested.

I do think the problems were the world was too abstract and the gameplay too simple. Jumping didnt feel very good at all due to some physic mechanics. It was a bit floaty.

It was a cool idea for one game, but not for a series. I think that is what happens with media molecule games. Tearaway will be the same. First game original, but no good for a series. They are games that relly on freshness, and theres no more freshness in a sequal. Its more of the same. So, that "same" has to have a strong basis of fantasy, immersion and gameplay. Due to their constant suspension of disbelief, these media molecule games will never make good series.
