Good points and I agree entirely.
I think even in light of this kind of thinking, and even though I was expecting the vast majority of Nintendo's announcements would be spin-offs, things like Amiibo Party stank, the pointless 5 minutes chat about the Yoshi amiibo didn't need to be in the Digital Event, and things like Bravely Second, Devil's Third, Fatal Frame V and Project Treasure should have been featured.
It was a poor show even given the circumstances, but Wii U's line for the rest of this year, and 3DS's line up for 2016 is looking good (particularly in Europe). For Wii U, there's Yoshi, Devil's Third, Fatal Frame, Super Mario Maker, Mario Tennis, Star Fox Zero and Xenoblade X I'm interested in. There haven't been so many potential buys for me since I bought the system at the end of 2013 and had software to catch up on. Even if there are only a handful of releases next year, I'll have bought around 25 retail titles (and at least 20 VC/eShop releases plus DLC) in two years of ownership. What other publisher would provide so much support for a commercial disaster?
Nintendo did a poor job of getting their content across, but the reactions have been sadly too typical of disappointed gamers in recent years: over the top outrage. The fact people are signing a petition demanding that Next Level's Metroid spin-off be scrapped is absolutely disgusting. Grow up, realise there are bigger problems, and if you don't like what Nintendo are doing: stop buying their games.
