Forums - Nintendo - Can NX honestly release next year with only 4 years of Wii U?

When is NX coming out?

Fall 2016 92 32.51%

Fall 2017 133 47.00%

Sometime 2018 30 10.60%

Yo Mama 28 9.89%

Total:283

We'll definitely hear more details about it next year.

Not sure about release date, but I'd say 2017 at the earliest.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

4 years is actually quite a long time.

People who are going to scream "Sega" are wrong, the 32X was supported for like 8 months (lol) and the Saturn in the US for maybe 2 1/2 years, so it's not equivalent at all.

The first XBox had 4 years of support and the GBA had 3 1/2 years, so that's really no the issue.

The issue really is what will be so great about the NX that will change anything in this equation for Nintendo? That's the bigger question. Is it another gimmick based platform (some of the Iwata comments seem to hint at that direction)?

Aside from the Virtual Boy, Nintendo has never released a new home console within 5 years of the release of its predecessor.

People instantly jump to conclusions this year while 3ds last year only two new games were shown
So Nintendo is doing the same thing with 3ds last year with bearly any announcements and what if Nintendo has a secret direct later focused on wiiu

Nx will release in 2017 because they shown wiiu at 2011

Nothing is too early when the question is, "When will Nintendo move on from Wii U?"

It wont really be 4 years, its not even 3 full year... the third year is meh, worse than the second year whereas its supposed to be the opposite ... 2016 will be even worse and as empty as Wii last year, like if the Wii U didnt exist.

Even the gamecube had a much better treatment ( Metroid, F Zero, a true Mario 3D, many RPG's, great games, oh man...I miss this nintendo, they seem dead)

If they release a new console so soon, before 2018 while they gave up Wii U after 3 years, i hope gamers wont buy their next console, they wouldnt deserve it ( well unless they show a true mario 3D for their new console, real metroid game, f zero... )

They didn't release sh*t for the GameCube in 2005 and 2006 other than adding insult to injury by letting Wii owners have Twilight Princess first.

The Wii was garbage its last two years too (2011-12).

I think it's actually far more preferable to just skip this phase and go on ahead to the next generation then. Wii U was a mistake from day 1, why drag the company into the abyss for several more years because of it.

Unless you were like one of 5% of people in North America and Europe who bought an NES in 1986, Nintendo did replace the NES with the SNES in under 5 years for most people in the West.

Most people got their NES in 87 or 88, so Nintendo releasing the Super NES in 1991 was a very quick turn around.

Also the N64 was originally announced and supposed to come out in 1995, it was just because of delays that it didn't.

So really even that isn't some sacred cow that can't be slaughtered.

Lets be honest too, the last year of "GameCube support" was a total and complete joke. They stopped supporting the GameCube in any serious way after 2004 and bailed on Twilight Princess releasing that on Wii first and then just giving the GameCube a late, limited release.

The NX was prematurely revealed to calm worries about them going mobile. It made sense at the time but it's announcement has caused wild and absurd speculation. Frankly I doubt it will come out before 2017 and it may even be 2018.

Nintendo's already said they will show it next year. Next E3 is likely to be all about NX.

The writing is on the wall for the Wii U anyway.

2017 at the earliest, and that's to replace the 3DS.
