Well, now I'm impressed. The WiiU-boost in the release week was expected (although not that high), but that WiiU still sells good is surprising. Laughing at anyone who says Splatoon isn't a system seller.

Its the first major IP from Nintendo in 14 years(since Pikmin(this means in term of appeal).
It has a huge marketing campaign and got good reviews.
Its pretty decent price wise in JP and EU but not NA.
Its a shooter from Nintendo.
Its a different shooter from everything else.
Number of reasons.
Oh and it also has official forum, reddit, artwork, youtube, twitch communities.

I must be the only one that hasn't seen that darn commercial. A few friends have mentioned it, and I see the saying plastered all over Splatoon threads.

Already made back then just with retail+digital sold.
1 Yen = .0081 Dollar.
The game costs 6,156 yen in Japan, which is roughly $50.
About 260k copies retail+digital have been sold in Japan, which when multiplied by $50 equals $13 million. 
And that's not even counting amiibo.

Well Nintendo doesn't get all of that money, lets say they get $19 back each copy sold. (Digital which they get alot more of it).
$20 x 300k Sold (Japan numbers most likely by end of 3rd week, 17 days) = $6mil.
Japan should do at least 450k.
