Forums - Gaming - CEO Of R* Says PS4/XB1 Power Nowhere Near Realized Yet

I don't think there will be huge improvement.

There's no crazy architecture with this gen's consoles, they're straightforward and easy to harness.

Of course, devs will get better at making the most of the hardware, but there won't be anywhere near the dramatic improvement we saw on PS3/360.

Yes there can be huge improvements, if every game would be at least at the same level as PS4 exclusives which they are not. The PS4 is more powerfull but also more complex to maxing out the hardware, thats because it has more powerfull gpu than cpu and only gddr5 as memory.

PS4 isn't complex. It has a pretty standard CPU and GPU and one big pool of fast RAM. There's no Cell-like mysteries to its innards.

Graphics will of course improve as devs gain more experience with the hardware and better tools, but we will never see a PS4 game that shows the same kind of leap over Killzone Shadowfall that The Last of Us or God of War Ascension show over Resistance Fall of Man. In fact, I doubt any console will ever show that kind of leap again.

Killzone Shadow Fall does indeed look insane even today. For a launch title they really did push it graphically.

It was innevitable. As each gen passes, the leap between 1st and last gen games decreases, as does the leap between console generations. It will eventually come down to 'subtle' differences that only tech savvy forum users are aware of or those with a keen eye for detail.

The PS5 Exists.

From what i hear both Xbox One and PS4 have a second gpu that is yet to be unlocked. It's power will be unlocked in stages in the form of multiple DLC at $29,99 each, or you can buy a season pass now for $99,99.

Well I think it will be hard for PS4 to ever surpass Driveclub's graphics, except that it may achieve those kind of graphics at 60fps.

After seeing RYSE and infamous second son I think its true. Games look amazing. Plus as usal they will be utilized in two or three years since we had cross Gen games for the most part.

GT7 will somoke those graphics rather easily.  Even if the hardware is easyas hell to code for, time will always improve things.

I agree with pretty much everything you say, but most devs haven't started to really push the potential of GPGPU in games. It may not be obvious in terms of visuals, but I think it will make a big difference to environments, detail, interactive objects, physics etc.

Only time could tell with something like this. I will return to this conversation in 2019.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

Well yeah just compare GTAIV to GTAV, its almost a generational leap in itself.
