Here's Abdiel's assessment for April:

"I'll reiterate since we don't have a new prediction thread yet:

Through this entire month, in the districts I've checked (always a wide range to try and compensate for varying customer bases) the ps4 consistently outsold the xb1 quite handily. This is just best buy, but we didn't see the same kind of stock issues that seemed to plague Amazon.

I was kind of surprised, the promotion we had with the email coupon for an extra $50 off any xb1 really didn't get a lot of traction in our local stores.

MKX sold very well indeed though.

And for people speculating about Splatoon from the other thread... Preorders aren't the whole story for a game's success or failure, but they're not looking great at this point."

P.S. The Shogun is banned on GAF, so it looks like we'll be depending on Abdiel for general trends unless Cornbread and Osiris also give their assessments.

Thanks for posting that. I usually go looking for Abdiel's comments on the monthly situation, now I don't have to bother for this month.

MKX did pretty well as expected, and may have shifted a few consoles as well.  Expected on Splatoon, it is not a game that seems like it would resonate with general gamers.

New month, PS4 in the lead. Perfect.

The PS5 Exists.

Let me tag this

April's thread wasn't half as popular as March's. I guess the stock issues affected people's interest.

hoggin' all the action, I see...

Im still sad about the PS4 situation on Amazon.

But making a sad panda tag here anyway.

It is not that bad because even with all these supply issues on Amazon PS4 had the best selling SKU in April

Yeah, but it seems like peoples skills at searching online > supply issues. =/

Also, the supply issues were unique to Amazon. Everywhere else, PS4 had no problem staying in stock.

Yeap... I guess the supply issue was a Amazon thing and not Sony thing.

Well you can read what I think: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=162689032&postcount=3762

Interesting observation on Splatoon. Especially for Nintendo games pre-orders are not the whole story. But if Splatoon is supposed to be a system seller then substantial pre-orders would be expected. If it's mostly going to be picked up by existing Wii U owners or people already planning to buy a Wii U then its sales pattern will be flatter and longer with not much hardware push. I always expected Splatoon to go the flatter and longer route with sales and that it is not going to shift hardware in any significant way.

I think the Amazon hiccup with PS4 supply has perhaps sent PS4 buyers away from Amazon to some extent for a longer period than just the period of lack of supply. But I don't think the effect will be significant enough to make Amazon no longer reliable as a Xb one vs PS4 barometer.
