Comments from the review confirm that Famitsu felt the story was too heavy. Cutscenes were too long and too numerous. So it is because of the story, but probably not for the reasons Spem expected. They didn't say the story is bad or anything.

No idea why he adressed Sony-fans and not other groups (the evil Sega-fans for instance!).

It got ridiculous, because Puzzle&Dragons got such an irreal good score. Not saying that is wrong, I'm waiting for P&D to release here (although I may prefer Z, but we europeans get both games for the price of one). But surely western reviewers will not rate P&D at 90.

So basically cutscenes are to long and too frequent. That's good and bad. I didn't think that XBC's cutscenes were too like because, let's be real, the game isn't standing on its gameplay alone. But if the cutscenes are somehow too invasive, that could be a huge problem. I forgive JRPGs for long cutscenes before other games because they always have gameplay that can't entertain without them. Still, there is such a thing as too much.

Wait... Are people really being butthurt over Xenoblade X getting 9/10, 9/10, 8/10 and 8/10 scores from 4 different reviewers?

On what planet is it reasonable to consider those as bad scores?

I swear some of you will always complain if an exclusive game you have never even played but is on your favourite console gets less than perfect scores.

Exactly. Turns out, I have nothing to worry about there lol. I didn't think the original had the greatest story ever either, so I'm not expecting Citizen Cain. I just want a campy, feel-good JRPG story with a VA cast that doesn't suck, just like the original. Give me that, and this game gets an A from me.

Also, isn't it about time someone should make a XCX spoiler-free thread? I really want a place were people can talk about XCX, but still be blind until release. I'd do it, but I don't know if it counts as an official thread that needs to be aproved first.

But let us wait for more reviews about the game. 4 reviewers from Japan doesn't really say much. Not to mention they didn't really give the game a bad rating anyway. 8 and 9's and people are already complaining, what?

Exactly.  It's baffling that scores like that are already getting complaints. I thought things couldn't get any worse when people started being all doom and gloom at games getting 7's and now even 8 and 9's? Next time getting anything other than 10 will equal to being crap(not that that's already the case).

A lot of people expected X to get The Last of Us style scores. After hearing about how X is the Second Coming of Christ I guess they didn't expect a 34/40.
