Because he is telling the truth? VR is going to fade into oblviion just like the 3D tv thing.......
I really like Phil Spencer, very honest and up front.

Sony is invested in this, but Facebook has INVESTED in this, and then comes this guy saying, "you're all dumb" because they are thinking about things too early. Nice going Phil. Even if it turns out to be a missed shot, working on something for a better tomorrow is a way better mindset than the opposite like "tomorrow is still very far away, lets just chill for now" mindset.
I've always like innovation in gaming, its when they force us that innovation that i dislike. I don't see this being forced on no one so i let them think and do whatever they see fit with this VR stuff.

who cares if not all game genre are suited for it? If it turns out its the best way to experiance a FPS, and the market takes off while MS is just twiddling its thumbs waiting on others to see how things turn out... its going to be behinde from the get go. VR could be big, if such a wave was to hit the scene, you would want to be ontop of your game for it. |
Well, I care. And I care because unlike the wiimotes, Move controllers or even Kinect, those VR helmets won't be cheap, and I can't see them used in so many genres as those controllers.
Even worse is the fact that in every demostration made so far of any of those devices, they have used wired units with the promise that they'll get a wireless version at launch. How? Is there a way to wirelessly send a 1080p (as a min) res image to the helmet at the high frame rates needed?
It's still too early for those devices to reach the masses, because right now they'll be a niche product like a racing wheel or an arcade stick.
Please excuse my bad English.

3D did not catch up, so you're saying that it was waste of time, and this will be too. But how do we move forward if everything is dead on arrival? Trying something different and innovative is a bad thing now?

Lord knows that I've really tried to dislike Phil Spencer, simply because I don't trust him.
But god dammit when the man is right he is right.

lol VR is in no way "innovative" it has been done for ages and it always dies out. VR does not have the potential to catch on with the mass market.

People have not seen one game yet that makes them want to buy a VR and still they are here trying to say he is wrong. First we have to get games, then we have to get the headsets down to an affordable price. 10 more years before VR is ready.
If VR does become popular it will be Oculas Rift because PC actually has the power to make the games. PS4 and Xbox One can forget about it. Cant even get 1080 / 60 FPS but its going to do VR?
"Well, I care. And I care because unlike the wiimotes, Move controllers or even Kinect, those VR helmets won't be cheap, and I can't see them used in so many genres as those controllers."
Most of them are currently around the 199$ mark.
Once it takes off you ll see those prices drop.
Maybe a 2years form now, the norm will be around 99$ for a VR head set.
"Even worse is the fact that in every demostration made so far of any of those devices, they have used wired units with the promise that they'll get a wireless version at launch."
Honestly who cares about the wire? Thats like saying you refuse to use a game controller with a wire.
But im sure if they say there will be wireless versions there will be.
"It's still too early for those devices to reach the masses, because right now they'll be a niche product like a racing wheel or an arcade stick."
Im going to be blunt... I think your wrong.
The time is now.
I dont think the graphics will matter... make a cartoony Zelda like VR game for all that it matters.
It will sell bonkers because people will want to try it out.
The immersion possible with VR will change gameing.
