Yeah its getting pretty bad.

I've been on VGC since 2007 as well so I've seen it develop from a hobby tracking site with a forum to a full blown professional analyst source frequently quoted by reputable, well known news publishers.

My take on the extension of time between updates was more of checking numbers for accuracy over predictable, weekly data updates that resulted in estimates further from official manufacturer and publisher reports.

Understandable, except it still seems as though there are just as many adjustments for incorrect estimates as there were years ago.

But, it need be pointed out that there is a paid for service for more in-depth analysis and data albeit still subject to the same inaccuracies and adjustments.

At this point, for up to date sales data, estimates, data and analysis users should be subscribing to the paid for service as opposed to hobbyist followers of the free access site. If there was any complaints to be had, it should be among those paying subscribers. VGC has become a legitimate successful business and it only makes sense that subscribing industry professionals have become first priority.

Its always about the money in the end huh

That helps keeping thing going, in order, under control. A lot.

That will become a issue if you relax or don't wanna follow it sometimes but it brings more good than bad if you actually want to put yourself through something otherwise you won't.

Yes but what good does it to ioi?

If he had a schedule he would be more busy explaining delays than actually doing charts.

A schedule is for the visitors. IOI doesn't have to do it just to make us happy, but to keep us hooked on the site.

Suppose that someone new discovers this website and really likes what he sees. He decides he'll come back the next tuesday when the EMEA numbers are added.

Tuesday: Nice, the new EMEA numbers. Interesting, I really wonder what has happened in Japan, I'm coming back tomorrow to check them out.
Wednesday: Same as yesterday, I don't want to miss the NA numbers tomorrow!
Thursday: Cool, Seeing all the data collected in a global chart. I'm gonna create an account so I can discuss about the numbers on the forum.
Friday-monday: I'm really hooked to the interesting discussions about the numbers, I'm coming back each day to discuss about them and post about my favourite game/console/whatever. VGCHartz just got a new regular user.

So this guy has been visiting for a few weeks. He logs in on a random tuesday, eager for the new EMEA numbers.

Tuesday: Oh, no numbers, that's strange. I'll come back tomorrow to check them out.
Wednesday: Huh, still no numbers! But they'll be there tomorrow, IOI will probably upload everything in one day.
Thursday: Still no numbers, what's going on?

So he decides to check in now and then, yet there are no numbers. He doesn't post on the forum as much, simply because there are no new numbers to discuss about. He comes back a few times next week, just to check if the numbers are there. But they aren't.
Twoo weeks later he checks once, and numbers still aren't there. This person has just lost interest in the site.

Even if wouldn't be this bad, keeping to a schedule results in people knowing what to expect. Not keeping it will result in people not visiting the site as often as they could. Obviously this schedule needs to be realistic so IOI can keep to it.

I am in full agreement! The numbers have been around a month behind sometimes. There are many sites for news and reviews, but the sales numbers are what this site is supposed to be about. There seems to be no schedule or regularity. Very frustrating.
I would like to shake your hand for having the courage to say what needed to be said on this ban heavy site.

agreed also here a long time

signed up for the numbers, forums, prediction league, and game database, adding games to your collection is a thing no more there all gone what happened?

been using gaf forums more often as of 2012 feels more lively

I enjoy the forum discussion as much as the numbers. But the popup ads on mobile are aggravating.

Oddly enough now that I think about it, I haven't had many popups lately...

Oh man I'm the same way. I only use mobile to check this website and it's been utterly aggravating when I get pop up banners for adds(that I accedenta click on while trying to get rid of them -_-) and they only started up recently! I hope they go away soon...

The posters on the forums are pretty great. Everything else about this site is bad including the delays in number updates, the layout and the mobile access.ł

I'm getting tired of these type of threads. It would be nice if he consistently released numbers but we don't need repeated threads whining about it. He got behind on it. So what. He'll catch the numbers back up when he can.
