Nintendo could NOT have turned around the Wii U like Sony did with the PS3.

a) The hype for the PS3 was huge anyway, it was the price that killed it. Once Sony did the rebranding in 2009 and had a decent price, it made its appropriate comeback. The Wii U could be $99 and no one would buy it still.

b) Third party support. Nuff said. Sony had it, Nintendo doesn't.

c) The PS3 sold well after its atrocious first year. PS3 sold MORE in 1 year DESPITE $599, losing exclusives, no rumble, no first party games, mediocre second party games, inferior multiplats, etc. etc. what the Wii U has sold in TOTAL.

....ouch! i'm gonna hold onto this whenever anyone tries to make the PS3/Wii U comparison

Mario Maker, Xenoblade, Splatoon, Yoshi, Mario Party, Devil's Third, Starfox = Only a few key releases.

Mario Maker, Xenoblade, Splatoon, Yoshi, Mario Party, Devil's Third, Starfox + Zelda = Good amount of key releases per year, Wii U has games coming, blah blah blah.

More negativity! Must be a normal day on VGChartz.

I bought my Wii U because of Monster Hunter, and I'm not disappointed at my purchase AT ALL. I've gotten a chance to play some other great games as well, and a way to LEGALLY play Golden Sun GBA, Fire Emblem GBA, and F-Zero GBA. Backwards compatibility, amazing internet browser, off-tv gameplay... Bitch I'm happy.

Because Zelda outweighs all those other releases in both commercial importance and gamer anticipation.

Xenoblade, Splatoon, Yoshi,  Mario Party/Maker, Devil's Third, Starfox, these are not tentpole releases. HD Zelda is a big reason why many Wii U owners bought their system. Taking it away is like taking the cake and leaving the icing.

It's great that you're happy with your purchase, but it's understandable why a lot of people are pissed off.

Mario Maker might surpise some people. MIGHT

I do believe Ninty will right all their wrongs with the next generation. It's just taken awhile for them to get there. We'll have to wait and see, but don't count them out yet.

I've been hoping for the same thing since N64. And that was almost 20 years ago. And now I'm a grown ass man, still waiting for them to get it right. The Wii was a big commercial success, but it was not aimed towards me. And when Nintendo say that they want to "surprise gamers" with the NX, I can only think "Please, no more surprises, Nintendo.."

How did the Wii disappoint you? To me, it had some of the best games. for a Nintendo system Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, Elebits, Dewy's Adventure, Little King's Story, Cooking Mama, Trauma Center, Wii Sports, Lost in Shadow, Xenoblade Chronicles, Pandora's Tower, Fragile Dreams, Endless Ocean, Deadly Creatures, Mushroom Men, World of Goo, Klonoa, Madworld, No More Heroes, Marble Mania, Wario LAnd, Smash Bros. Brawl, Zak and Wiki, and so many more.

was the Wii really a disappointment

True, it could hit the same mass market strata as Minecraft, but I can't help but feel Wii U still too expensive and casual-unfriendly to foster the full potential of this audience. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

Yes. to some people which is why i truly believe that that disappointment is also extending to the woes of the WIi U. Think about it, if you buy a product that you dont end up liking you are far less likely to want to buy the next product. I mean Wii U might not even hit 20mil from a 100mil console?

For me most of those games you listed are overrated. Except Galaxy. the first party games for the most part had some of the worst iterations. 3rd party was a joke and the system itself was horribly behind the times in just about every aspect and the motion itself wasnt evne that good.

Surprised that the "yes" answer is winnig the poll considering how Nintendo dominated is this site's community

at some point the goggles come off and reality starts to set in.

Wii U is an underpowered console.

That is pretty much it's only flaw. If Nintendo had invested more into the CPU, GPU and RAM, we would be singing a different tune right now.

And as such, the Wii U will need to have a shorted lifespan as it's hardware is simply too dated. It can't keep up.

While Sony and Microsoft built up their foundations for future consoles during the 7th gen. Now that Sony is back to its dominant self and Xbox is even bigger brand, Nintendo really had the wrong idea to think a fad could work again

I think they could have turned it around enough to sell roughly 40mil lifetime. Also, how to you think Sony got the third party support? They made first party games in the genres they were chasing in order to prove that those types of games sold (action adventure, racing, FPS etc) and I'd bet they paid for the content.

Nintendo did neither of those things. They're too arrogant and tight-assed and it will be their downfall. They may make it big with the casuals once the crack the mobile market, but their 5 million or so core fans that are left are diminishing fast because we are losing faith in their ability to support their products.
