Gamecube smoked the PS2 for me. The droughts killed it though and the PS2 was great for a bit of GTA in between Nintendo games.

The exclusives largely felt joyless to me, and the multplats were better on Xbox. Also as a console it didn't have a strong identity in my eyes; the PS1 was a bold, adventurous portal into a brand new world of 3D gaming, even the PS3 was a majestic juggernaught of larger-than-life epics. But the PS2? I struggle to find any memorable moments of my time with it. It was like a downgraded Xbox without Halo. And yeah, I'm speaking from experience, I kind of have to, since there's not a system on the planet where I have played its entire library, haha.

Wonder why these authors have to go out of their way to air their grievances with Nintendo in particular. I don't see Sony or Microsoft being the subject of these rants.

I feel that way about consoles in general, especially this gen.  Sony had a good start out of the gate with reasonably powerful and affordable hardware with the PS4, even though as a mostly PC gamer, I'm not that impressed, but none of the games so far have impressed me at all.  Too bad too, as I was looking forward to The Order and what it could be.  But twhen I think about it, the last PS console I enjoyed immensely was PS2.  I did buy a Gamecube for 2 games though(RE4 and Prime) which turned out to be some of the best games I've ever played.  PS3 was pretty meh to me.

Secondly, I'm not sure how seriously I can take an article about Nintendo from what looks like a Sony focused site.  I'd have similar feelinsg about someone saying they aren't impressed by Sony's efforts on a Nintendo focused site.    Also given the fect he's commenting about a new platform we literally know nothing about.  And kind of weird to see him/her talking about 'grown up' games, which honestly seems quite stupid.

But I guess it all boils down to what impresses you, and what you want out of a platform.

People do tend to focus on the usual Zelda and Mario and ignoring Nintendo's more experimental and unique efforts though.  Too bad as well, since these games get ignored or labelled 'non-Nintendo' games by some weird criteria people will come up with, and goal posts being moved

What about Gamecube's controller? Which was smaller, and had the layout even more cramped?

I don't remember Gamecube's being as small, though of the four I had, three were third party ones that weren't the standard size and shape. GC at least fit into the curvature of my hands though, I don't remember it feeling uncomfortable like the dualshock.
