Forums - Nintendo - Sadly, I'm Just Not Sure Nintendo Can Impress Me Anymore

^This article almost hit the nail on the head for me.  My first console was an N64, and while I never thought it was better than my cousin's PS1; I didn't feel like it was worse either.

Then the PS2 came out and the contest was just over.  PS2 had more games, and they were far more diverse too.  Same goes for PS3 and PS4 (Except it continues to become more one-sided).

So far every Nintendo system has better Nintendo games than competitve consoles have first or second party games. So Nintendo obviously impresses more than others. Ps3 having FF13 or Xbox having Call of Duty has nothing to do with the console manufacturers ability to impress at all.

People are quick to point out PS4 has lackluster library than Wii U. Lol. PS4 has more games than Wii U (and PS4 is in market less time than Wii U). Wii U is in the market for more than 2 years and PS4 is 1 year. Try comparing Wii U's first year games with PS4. After PS4 passes 2 year please start comparing.

Reading his comment, I think he means in terms of quality, not quantity.

So games like dragon age inquisition, farcry 4 or GTA V are poor games? And all nintendo exclusives are out of heaven? What quality are you talking about?

Well, the same happened to me. Nintendo had more powerful consoles back in the day and the N64 was my favourite one ever.
I became quite a sony loverboy over the years though everytime they tried to compete with Nintendo on their ground (platformers, specially) they made me sick.
PS3 utterly became a great console.
PS4 does not offer enough interesting games yet, but that eventually will happen. That's why I am patienly waiting to jump onboard.

Nintendo is still Nintendo and they excel at some games, but though they try us to believe they are a very innovative company, in what regards to software, they tend to be very ortodox and they haven't been able to diversify their offering well enough.

I never said all Nintendo exclusives are "out of heaven".

I'd definitely call GTAV a poor game, but Far Cry 4 was fun. Can't comment on Inquisition.

Try dragon age inquisition. You will love it.

People tend to forget everything. The reason I am stating this because of this. The first year of  Wii U wasnt pleasant. Nintendo wasnt ready. I do hope they triumph with Nintendo NX.

Wii U starts 2013 with massive software drought in US

Iwata is sorry for the software drought on Wii U

You might have heard that Rayman Legends was delayed this past week. The game is now multi-platform and will not be in your Wii U console until September.

Rayman was originally scheduled to release on February 26th in America. It was going to end a long drought of new releases for Nintendo’s new console. While 360/PS3 owners received games like Dead Space 3 and DmC, the Wii U hasn’t received any new releases in 2013. At least none that are noteworthy.

Yes, a few digital games have released on the eShop. The Cave could be filling the void for Wii U owners for the moment. Some people could be having a blast with Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage. But the news of Rayman’s delay is even more distressing for Nintendo for reasons other than losing an exclusive.

It means the Wii U is starting 2013 on a massive new release drought in the US. 64 days without a notable new release at retail to be exact. Rayman Legends was going to be a huge deal for Wii U owners not just because it was going be the first Wii U retail release in 2013 but it would also give them a reason to say “this is why I bought this console”. Now they will be met with a long overdue port of last year’s The Amazing Spiderman on March 5th.

Pikmin 3, Game & Wario, Wonderful 101 and Wii Fit U were all scheduled to release before March originally. All of them have been pushed back to “Spring” or “Summer” by Nintendo. Had one or two of these released in January or February perhaps the blow of Rayman’s delay wouldn’t be so severe.

Upcoming additions to the eShop like Toki Tori 2 and Bit.Trip Runner 2 will make this drought a bit more tolerable but they can only do so much.

Things will pick up a bit for the Wii U in March. The Amazing Spiderman and Need For Speed: Most Wanted will arrive late on the console while Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Lego City: Undercover give Wii U players something that can’t be found on PS3/360. Aliens: Colonial Marines is set to release one month later than the 360/PS3 versions on Wii U, hitting store shelves in March. We shouldn’t forget The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct.

April doesn’t look too good with only Injustice: Gods Among Us but there is a chance one of those delayed first party games makes it out in time for Easter. May will bring with it Sniper Elite V2 and Resident Evil: Revelations and hopefully more of those delayed first party games.

Nonetheless the Wii U has had a rocky start to 2013. It began the year on a brutal software drought that challenges even the worst software droughts in gaming history. Nintendo could have handled this better if they managed to get at least one of those first party ‘launch window’ games out on time.

They can’t control what third parties do, which is what we saw with the Rayman Legends delay this past week. I’m sure Iwata and company aren’t pleased with this move by Ubisoft, especially after they gave Legends and Zombi U a good amount of attention as killer Wii U exclusives.

It sounds like Nintendo aims to fix this drought with Yarn Yoshi, Wind Waker HD, Mario Kart U and a new 3D Super Mario game later this year. Let’s hope those games don’t suffer from massive delays like many of Nintendo’s ‘launch window’ games have.

In the wake of this agonizing new release drought what have you been playing on your Wii U? Leave a comment below with your thoughts about this situation the Wii U is in as well as whatever you’re playing on the console right now.

Oh I know 2013 for Wii U sucked, that's the reason I didn't bother buying one until November. ;)

I just meant that his comment seemed to be talking more about his tastes than which system had more support.

Hang on there, just wait for the next Zelda and Metroid...

When the main punchline is something along the line of "why bother when I have more grown-up games to play" then the guy who wrote it is just sad. Not even sad, down right pathetic.

Don't like it? Fine, whatever. But don't try to justify it with bullshit reasons that don't even apply.

I don't think Nintendo has impressed me in the longest time with predictable games generation after generation. But none-the-less, they still know how to make great games that I still enjoy.

*Cheers to the next Mario Party that will have mediocre reviews but I'll still buy and play the f**king sh*t out of! =P

Nintendo lost my respect LONG ago (December 2006 to be exact) with the launch of the Wii.
Worst console I have ever owned. It disgusts me. I think even the Phillips CD-I was a better console.
Anyway, to the point, yes, Nintendo will never impress me again.
