^This article almost hit the nail on the head for me.  My first console was an N64, and while I never thought it was better than my cousin's PS1; I didn't feel like it was worse either.

Then the PS2 came out and the contest was just over.  PS2 had more games, and they were far more diverse too.  Same goes for PS3 and PS4 (Except it continues to become more one-sided).

That post passes as an article ... perhaps I should consider the source of the link

This is how it is with everyone for me. There is a reason for this being, games have evolved quicker than any form of entertainment media,I'm sure. We've seen so much in so little time. Nintendo isn't about surprising me anymore, they've done their fair share of that and those surprises set standards for the entire industry. My thing is now, as all gamers should think, are the games any good and do they look fun.

So then enjoy the PS4. That's the whole point of competition, different companies can offer different things.

I don't like or enjoy all the same brands as I did when I was 9 or 10 years old either, some things change, some things I still enjoy from that age.

If Sony's take on consoles floats your boat good for you.

This is similar to my experience with Sony, although I am skipping PS4 because there's nothing on it that really makes me want it. For Nintendo, I only really liked NES, SNES and Wii, but I want to like Wii U as well, and maybe that will be the case after this year. I like Nintendo handhelds a lot.

I usually go where the RPGs go. Right now it is kind of 3DS. Although the genre is weaker now than it was last generation. Square Enix seems to have vanished into irrelevance since last generation.
