I am still interested in Nintendo but now that they are going mobile, Nintendo will have a big shift.. for the better or for the worse, only time can tell

Nintendo fans know that your average 3D mario game has more to offer than what people give it for. We also know that the library and gaming mechanics are far more diverse than what's available on every other platform. and yet we still have people yelling to the mountain tops "I'M A MAN! GIVE ME A MANLY GROWN UP GAME!". So if you were Nintendo, how would YOU reach out to these people. Are they reachable? What needs to change in the marketing to get this demographic to see the brand for what it is which is rich diverse gaming experiences across nearly every genre.


I think there's nothing nintendo can do, mario is a extremely famous character, it will always be attached to nintendo's name no matter how many rated M or T titles will be on its system. The only thing that will make them buy nintendo system is when they have a kid as relative (nephew, son, daughter, cousin) to give it to them as gift, so they will play without hurt their manliness, because they will do that to entertain the kids... only that... (sure)

They're a known quantity at this point. People can act like a new Zelda being announced or a new entry in franchises that have been around for 20+ years is some crazy surprise but fact is we all basically know what's coming to WiiU. Even Star Fox only took a 1 gen break and Metroid would be same case. They just don't surprise. By comparison look at Sony. Before last gen they didn't have Uncharted, Souls, Resistance, LBP, Journey, TLoU, and many more memorable properties. That's more creativity and successful new IP than Nintendo has had for 3 gens.

Nintendo is the Bond franchise. It's usually pretty solid but never all THAT exiting because it has been just steady for so long. Sony is Marvel studios. It's always a little different but usually I like what I get. MS is Michael Bay btw but for the purposes of this discussion I want to emphasize the first 2. I'll watch Bond movies but I'm seeing Marvel in theaters and getting the blurays. I buy Nintendo systems later and cheaper while I buy Playstation near launch. This gen I waited till WiiU was $200 and have only kept Kart and Smash for it because they have the lasting value of local MP which is one area Sony does lack in. I don't know I'll probably buy their new system but I get less enthusiastic every gen about them. Smash just felt like same old same old to me same with Mario Kart. They're very refined but not very WOW at this point.

That's fine if the games don't appeal to him anymore. Good for him. But the way he said it is where I take issue (along with many, many others in this thread, if you have read through all the posts. No reason to single me out because of our history). I wasn't being condescending, I was simply saying that I now understand how the author thinks and for this reason, I really don't care about the rest of his opinion. It's not a wrong opinion and I'm not saying I'm better than him (which is what you're implying). I'm just expressing that I don't agree with his opinion because of that paragraph in his article.

I didn't single you out, that's forgotten with on my part. I was wrong. I shouldn't have worded things the way I did.

There's just too much prissy hate online over pieces of plastic and opinions, it's getting harder and harder to tell who's being serious.

My 7 year old nephew got a WiiU for Christmas and I hooked it up and we played Mario, but I was not into it at all. It's just "kiddy" to me and I know that's hugely offensive to Nintendo fans, especially older ones, but that's how I feel. I consider myself a hardcore gamer to this day, but Nintendo just doesn't do it for me anymore and hasn't for years. Today I play games like Destiny, Shadow of Mordor, Skyrim, etc. and I'm looking forward to games Arkham Knight, Elder Scrolls Online, Witcher 3, etc. I just don't care for another Mario, Yoshi, or Pikmin game.


With you age you will be back at Nintendo in no time :)

Agreed. Its always the sad excuse. Dont worry guys, when you are older and you dont need to feel grown-up anymore, you will see it again.

Not saying you wont enjoy some more mature themed games, but the simplicity and joy of Nintendo games will become apparant when all you want is to relax and have some fun.

YOu do realise that Rol already pointed out the OP being with Sony and telling of the history contained with the OP right?, it's like this every day on here with some fans looking for scraps to throw at the opposite userbase, to rile them up and make themselevs look better, this happens a lot on other sites as well so VGChartz is far, far from perfect and respected.

You're also defending one side going by your quote, it's hardly always that way at all, way I see it this gen is Sony are riling against everyone else because they happen to have sold mroe than the competition, it's like deliberate teen agnsty revenge from last gen and the cycle will only continue the more you down the other userbase because once that opposite base gets the upper hand the enxt generation, they'll make sure you felt the same way they did, if you stop doing that crap now then you become the better man for it and they might do the same, if people like the op stop gathering every last scrap they can to downplay the other bases then maybe we won't have this kind of mentality.

And don't tell me "well it'll happen anyway", the more you feed the more you become part of the problem.
