Sadly sony and micro are even doing worse this generation, not even their own ips are interesting, killzone wasnt interesting and the only reason was bought was for the supposedly 1080p native support which ended in 960x1080i, infamous second son was same thing and not much changed besides graphics and resolution, the only surprise was that the retail was downgraded, and the order just sucks and i am not talking about graphics

the only interesting game right now for the new consoles is final fantasy XV which is not going to be 1080p but rather 900p and sub-800p respectively, lets see if the game lives up for the hype on the marketing

I'm not expecting FF15 to be a full 1080p on either the PS4 or X1, but taking the demo's resolution and stating it as thought it were the definite final resolution is a bit silly ^^;

Gamecube:

-No online  MP (Don't make me laugh by mentioning one or two games)

-Crappy small discs with many games requiring 2.

-No game diversity.  It had platformers, paper mario, and a couple of other Nintendo staples.  Meanwhile PS2 had FFX, Socom, MGS, platformers like crash/spyro/Rachet and Clank, and unique games like Jack and Daxter and dozens more.

- Online multiplayer wasn't huge on the PS2 either.

- The Gamecube had 23 games which required two discs, the PS2 had 16 games which required two (or even three) discs.

- Resident Evil (TPS/Surival Horror)? Tales of Symphonia (ARPG)? Baten Kaitos (Card RPG)? Metroid Prime (First Person Action Adventure)? Legend of Zelda (Action Adventure)? Eternal Darkness (Psychological Horror)? Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II & III (Space Shooter/TPS)? MGS: Twin Snakes (Stealth Action)? Skies of Arcadia Legends (Turn Based RPG)? Phantasy Star Online (Online ARPG)? Battalion Wars (RTS)? Pikmin (RTS)? Killer 7 (Action)? Fire Emblem (SRPG)? Animal Crossing (Life Sim)? Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (Multiplayer ARPG)? The only genre the GC seemed to be lacking was racing. Also Crash and Spyro were poor quality by the time the PS2 came out. Crash came on the Gamecube as well, but it didn't matter because the games were rated in the 60's.  R&C/J&D were the good Sony platformers then.

Don´t forguet about games like Mario Kart DD, 1080º, Waverace and the KING of futurist racer : F´Zero-GX

It also had the Need For Speed games. (And Kirby air Ride !!! :P)

I also don't see why resolution matters on determining if the final product will be good or live up to the hype.

I meant to put racing sim, like Gran Turismo. Sorry about that.

"Maybe it has been too long since Nintendo has grabbed me. Maybe I'm too old. Maybe when I look at Nintendo games today, I wonder why I'd bother when I have...you know, grown-up games I have to catch up on."

No more needs to be said.

I just spit up everywhere. That statement alone makes him extremely immature.

Agreed. This tells us everything we need to know about the author.

Any need for such a condescending reply? The games don't appeal to him anymore, no need to team against him.

I don't think that's what he meant, but yeah, a game doesn't need to be 1080p to live up to people's expectations of it (though it would definitely be a welcome addition :p).

The not so implicit implication in the quoted portion of said article is that Nintendo games are not for adults. So yeah, there is reason to critique a poorly conceptualized article.

Honestly, this is how I feel about most non-nintendo games.

Why should I get a ps4/xbox One when games on ps/xbox systems rarely excite me anyone? . Dragon Age Inquisition was cool, and the Witcher 3 will be great but other than that I've just lost interest.

This just happens, people (temporarily) lose interest for whatever reasons. Maybe next year I'll suddenly want a second console. I know 3ds suddenly revived my interest in handhelds when the XL released

I used to be a big PlayStation fan back in the PS1 days and the Spyro games were my favorite. I felt right at home, but over time it became more and more apparent that Sony and I had to part ways. While I grew up to leave my teenager years behind me, Sony refused to do the same. For the handful of female members we have around here, let me point out the entire scope of a male teenager's brain:

1) Is she hot?
2) If yes, how hot is she?

This mindset doesn't only apply to how male teenagers perceive women, but everything else as well. While I began to look at the finer details of games, Sony was still stuck in a mentality where only superficial things really mattered. The advancement of technology became less important to me over time, because a mediocre game with pretty graphics would still be a mediocre game. I wanted my games to be great at their core, not full of distractions that covered up for an unpolished/unbalanced game. You might say that good gameplay and good graphics are not mutually exclusive and you would be right for saying this. That's why I switched to Nintendo who have the highest batting average when it comes to making games like that.

I still follow the news on Sony systems and games, but time and time again I end up being disappointed, because they are unwilling to change. Current and future PS4 games aren't an exception to this rule, but further confirmation. I hope that one day I can own a Sony system without regrets again, but until then I'll stick to Nintendo games.

I think youre overvaluing nintendos games to say everything on playstation cant be on their level. Super mario 3 world for example gave you an extreme easy mode making the entire game design pointless because it allows you beat the game without any afford.

How is this better game design for example? i was pretty turned off by this when hearing about it
