In any case I don't think anyone actually meant flop in the true commercial sense, just expectation wise.


It was kinda silly to expect bigger numbers than, We got the 52k figure for first month (techniqually 9 days) of US but anybody that followed kirby, would of notice last Triple Deluxe a "3DS" and "Traditional Kirby platformer" sold 41k First Month.

Expecting more with a wiiu title thats based off one of the lowest selling Kirby games (CC 720k on DS Lifetime) was already crazy in itself. I doubt Nintendo expected to sell more than 400k lifetime with this game, which its almost guaranteed 300k at this point, with a chance at decent/great legs!

it is simply because the game was majority funded by sony, which is done without an expectation of return, like Nintendo funding Bayonetta 2.

The studio themselves don't have as high of a break even because of this, just as platinum didnt because of Nintendo's funding, so you can take off your foil hat.

It's all not that easy. Kirby probably has more content, that also counts for something. Platformers tend to need more resources in level design than shooters. Also testing is more complicated with a lot of gameplay options against a more simplicistic gameplay. So a cutscene or a QTE-driven sequence does not need as much resources in game design and testing, but obviously resources in other areas. So it isn't that easy to put it against each other.

And HD-development needs a lot of nearly invisible work in modelling and textures, even with more simplicistic designs. There are a lot of smaller japanese developers who thrive on small games that sell only some 100K and in some cases even sub 100K and in most cases never leave Japan. Still they put out game after game, so seemingly it is profitable. But they all do it on handhelds and nearly never touch consoles. So probably even simple graphics in HD need some serious development resources.

By the way, how many people are credited for developing the Order?

EDIT: Also Kirby is sold for 40$ and The Order for 60$, that makes some difference.

110k SOLD In US, undertracked by quite alot.

That should definitely be 140k-150k shipped, legs will continue...

Come on tbone, battlefield outsold it and it didn't sell 10m. Clearly a bomba!

I wish Nintendo would pull their finger out and get this to Europe already :(
