Forums - Nintendo - What has happened to Zelda this generation?

You aren't at least a little disappointed that they reused the overworld for ALBW? Also, I personally really enjoyed Phantom Hourglass. I felt like that game had a lot of really interesting side quests and activities outside of the traditional dungeons. I'm curious as well to how me saying ALBW rehashing the same world as ALttP would be akin to claiming TP rehashes OoT. What does TP reuse? The art style?

Let me counter this with another question: Aren't you at least a little disappointed that the overworld shows asolutely no consistency in between the games at all besides the 2 mentioned games (you can find the overworld area of Zelda 1 in Zelda 2 after wandering through Death mountain, but it's tiny and barely recognisable if you don't know it. Oh, and Spectable Rock appearing in each game)

Personally no, but that may be because I think the Zelda timeline is a load of horse shit and everyone who tries to assemble one is grasping at straws.

Nothing has happened! The remakes we've got are pretty well-made, ALBW is great and Hyrule Warriors is a very fun spin-off! Zelda U will most likely be amazing as well!

By the end of this generation, Nintendo will have released at least 5 Zelda games on their platforms. Of these 5 games, 3 are remakes and another rehashes the overworld from A Link to the Past. What happened to this great franchise? The previous generation we had 4 entirely new Zelda games. No rehashing overworlds or remakes. Is Nintendo having trouble deciding where to take the Legend of Zelda next? BTW, I'm willing to pretend Hyrule Warriors doesn't exist if you promise to forget Link's Crossbow Training.

lol it takes balls to make a thread like this on the vgchart forums.

If I made it, I would've gotten banned.

@OP

I like Hyrule Warriors (I guess, I only played it for 4 hours) and Link's Crossbow Training.

I didn't like Skyward Sword or Phantom Hourglass and I skipped Spirit Tracks. The direction Nintendo has taken this generation is fine in my opinion.

I'm genuinely curious what that direction is. If I had to guess the direction, it would be backwards because they've gotten all of their material from the past. Of course, everything I'm saying I'm saying looking at only the games released at the moment. That means Zelda U might as well not exist since well... it doesn't really exist yet. If it is as good as it looks, I might change my tune.

op: i definitely disagree with your premise. But only from my point of view. I don't count handhelds, spin-offs, or crossovers as zelda titles. Why, because they just don't matter to me. with that said i think you'll find we get an AVERAGE of one zelda per console with some exceptions.
Zelda 2, and majoras mask come way out of left field as far as zelda games, and twilight princess releases on 2 consoles giving the wii and gamecube 1.5 zelda games to their libraries. So no, i don't think anything crazy has happened to the franchise.

-nes-zelda (strange exception- zelda 2)
-snes-zelda alttp
-64- ocarina (strange exception- majoras mask)
-cube-windwaker
-(anamoly- twilight princess on 2 consoles)
-wii- skyward sworrd
-U- zelda u

I think zelda has been pretty stong this gen however I agree, there needs to be an "HD twilight princess" before next gen methinks!

I loved Link Between Worlds. I remember playing it while waiting for Jury Duty. I would've gone insane without it watching RV on the given TV (miss you Robin Williams, but that was a terrible film)

Tangent aside, I see where you're coming from, but I see it as Nintendo using all their resources to make Zelda U the best game it can possibly be. They know nostalgia works well for the Zelda snales so they used that this generation a lot to try to make up for the time spent on the 1 or 2 original games. I don't think it'll be a pattern come next generation

OP will have great difficulty making me believe he's owned a Zelda game made after 6th gen.

I know it's hard to comprehend that other people have different opinions than your own. Hopefully as you get older, you will learn to discuss the differences in opinion instead of just dismissing it immediately without any thought. Probably won't though because that would require you to think.

Anyways, since I love lists, here are all the zeldas I own:

Legend of Zelda -GBA

Legend of Zelda ALttP- Wii and Wiiu and GBA

Legend of Zelda MM-N64 and wii

Legend of Zelda Oot- N64 and wii

Legend of Zelda Minish Cap- Wiiu

Legend of Zelda PH- DS

Legend of Zelda ST- DS

Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword- Wii

Legend of Zelda WW HD- Wiiu

Legend of Zelda ALBW- 3ds

I love lists too

I have:

The Legend Of Zelda (NES)

Zelda 2: The Adventure Of Link (NES)

Links Awakening DX (GBC)

Ocarina Of Time (N64)

Majoras Mask (N64)

Oracle Of Ages (GBC)

Oracle Of Seasons (GBC)

A Link To The Past/Four Swords (GBA)

The Wind Waker (GC)

The Minish Cap (GBA)

The Legend Of Zelda Collection (GC)

Four Swords Adventures (GC)

Phantom Hourglass (DS)

Spirit Tracks (DS)

Twilight Princess (GC)

Twilight Princess (Wii)

Skyward Sword (Wii)

Ocarina Of Time 3D (3DS)

Wind Waker HD (WiiU)

A Link Between Worlds (3DS)

Majoras Mask 3D (3DS)

Nintendo are stretched across their main platforms. 3DS+Wii U development >>> DS+Wii.

Also the DS Zelda games were kinda lazy IMO.

Edit: Maybe also Majoras Mask + Link to the past 2 were kind of what people have been asking for for a while

I'll take ALBW before any of those DS games hell even Skyward Sword. The remakes are just bonus, especially Majora's Mask

I don't see a problem with the remakes or rehashes, every other major company releases those every single year.
