Forums - Gaming - Why don't you play fighting games?

Only fighting games i really enjoy are Tekken and Smash co-op, mainly because their easy, tekkens a bit more complicated but the combo's are responsive, whenever i play streetfighter no matter how many times i press the combo it only works like 1/5th of the time, maybe i'm just crap at the game :L

It's not a "Capcom" thing.  Updates need to be either cheap, or free.  That is a problem.  No one's fault that the game wasn't tested enough.  Granted, there's so much you get with a fighting game, it's impossible to test everything out as much less is scripted, people who buy the first editions need not be kicked because of it.  There was no reason to buy Street Fighter IV.  You were better off waiting for Super, at very least.

Yeah, I understand that there are expansions, but Capcom exploits their consumers with expansions. Mortal Kombat Trilogy was a compilation after part three, Virtua fighter? I cannot blame them. You're right, we shouldn't have purchased Street Fighter IV, but the huge was so huge after people stopped playing Street FIghter because 3 was inaccessible to most. The hype for that game was through the roof for a traditional fighter.



I don't enjoy fighting games anymore. When I was a child, I played the hell out of street fighter 2 and mortal kombat series, not anymore. The only fighting games that I still play is the Dragon ball series and that has more do with being a huge dragon ballz fans for many years.

While it is mainly a Capcom problem, Dead Or Alive 5 Final Round is another example, so Capcom isn't the only developer. Tekken 6, and Tekken 6 Bloodline Rebelion is another. Or Tekken 5 and Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection.

Because Street Fighter has more links.  I will get into all of that in my explaination video.  You cannot cancel attacks when you do links.  Attack canceling is chaining them.  There's a huge fundamental difference between each, and Street Fighter IV has both types of combos.  Tekken has links, but the hit-stun is longer, but there's a buffer window.

You can press square, then chain into triangle on your controller, and your character will do that move AFTER he's done his first attack.  Can't do that in Street Fighter.  You have to press that button directly after your first attack has ended.  The combo portion of Tekken is easier than street fighter, however, overall, Tekken is a harder game to play.

But that's why your combos aren't working in Street Fighter IV.  Those are links, not chains don't treat them like it.

What?  I don't even, are you likening combos to qtes or something?  The only fighting game I've played that I can think of that had actual qtes is that DC fighting game that was a bag of flaming garbage, but it was based around the mortal kombat formula which is fundamentally flawed and unbalanced anyway.

 

And generally if you can't really get into combos try working with grapplers, their style is different and the only combos they do usually only chain two or three hits together, but primarily you're playing a game of footsie to set up throws.  Of course if you can't work the 360 inputs then maybe fighters just aren't for you.


A friend of mine had a dragon ball z game and it had QTE's in it but having to remember combos is the main reason why I don't like fighting games. I don't like QTE's in general. I can tolerant a small amount of it but still it's annoying.

I hope you aren't seriously implying that Smash somehow requires less brain cells just because it isn't a fighting game. Comments like this are why Smash players get so defensive when you tell them it's not a fighting game. Playing Smash is just as technical and requires every bit as much "brain cells" as a fighting game does. It just so happens to not be a fighting games.

By the way, I've figured it out the overwhelming answer to this thread. Most of these people don't play fighting games because it's not Smash.

By the way, I've figured it out the overwhelming answer to this thread. Most of these people don't play fighting games because it's not Smash.


Playing Smash is nowhere near as technical, but it does require the skill to master. This is why I said people who play traditional fighters can blow off steam, they don't need to worry about complex Openers, linkers, autos, reversals, footsies, and other hallmarks of traditional fighters. Also they don't need to worry about instantly being KOed once they reach 100% If you're good you can try to stay in the match as long as possible. In traditional fighting games once you're life runs out, its done. 

It tries to make the game as fun as possible for people and really thats what matters.



They're a bit technical, and considering my backlog I just don't have the time to dedicate myself to learning them. I play some fighting games casually, like Smash Bros. & Soul Calibur, but that's pretty much it.

Of course it's as technical. If you try and play Smash to "blow off steam," you'd get absolutely destroyed. Again, Smash not being a fighter doesn't mean there's not as much technicality to it. The technicality just reserves itself to different areas which traditional fighters never need to think about. It's like saying that a hardcore PM player could "blow off steam" by playing MvC.
