It comes down to this, people just like the PS4, it has the games that they want to play, it's where most people want to play, it's where their friends play, it's not under powered compared to the competition, in fact it's the most powerful console based system and it wasn't overpriced for what it's packing.
All of this has made it The Games Console of the generation and that's just how things are!
As far as games go, the exclusive titles released so far have been fine, Knack is good IMO, same goes for Killzone and Infamous, I've played all three and don't get the hatred, largely I think it comes from people that haven't played those titles, because many people that have played them see them as good games, while maybe they have their flaws, they're good fun and that's what gaming is all about.
Mainly people care about 3rd party anyway, that's the audience that has bought into PS4 for the most part and Wii U doesn't have those games, in many ways it is the absolute opposite of PS4 and that's why people haven't gone for Nintendo.
Personally I will buy a Wii U when Zelda and Starfox come out, those are the gateway games for me, with other, already released titles being a library of content I would like to sink my teeth into, I honestly can't say the same of the XB1, it has nothing that really interests me and likely won't until well into 2016, maybe even 2017.
I really don't get how these people can't grasp why the situation in the console market is the way it is, it's so obvious and the only reason I can think of is that these people just don't want to face the truth that people simply aren't that interested in a system that hasn't catered to the market's needs.
PC gamers may think that if 3rd party is what the PS4's audience wants, then why haven't they bought a gaming rig? It's because those people don't consider the PC in their options, it's not something that appeals to them, they like the simple plug and play nature of a console, many aren't technically or technologically minded, they just want a box that plays the games they want and they haven't got to deal with drivers, making sure their specs work with the console and every one of their friends is gaming at the same level, in the same environment as them, they aren't PC gamers.
A lot of it simply has to do with your mates playing on a PS4, so you buy one as well.
