(although I don't like Bayonetta's overly sexual tones, it's just eye-rolling for me) Greek Mythos appeals to me more than whatever Bayo's story/world is. |
Just to point one thing out, it is funny that people are arguing about overly sexual female characters. It's not like male characters, especially Kratos, arent. That chracter is 296% gender cliche, just for western audience.
Bayonetta is cliche as hell, but with lots of humour.
It is quite funny to see people always point out, how overdone Bayonetta and at the same time ignore the same stuff with male, western characters in many games, that are often totally free of humour and self irony.
As for the OP: Plain no. Bayonetta 2 wasn't the answer to God of War.
It was just a great opportunity to fund a game for the hardcore audience. To bad to many gamers prefer to ignore a great game and keep on lamenting how it could have looked on another platform instead of buy and play a game, that would have never, ever existed without Nintendo.

Nah. I don't think GOW has any impact on Nintendo or their publishing decisions. They published Bayo 2 because they expected it to be well received and wanted something to help diversify their software lineup.

God of War didnt tarnish the screwed up nature of Greek mythology, the mythology was already dark, mischevious, incestuous, sexual (in more ways than one including beastiality) bloody and always a struggle for control to begin with. If Kratos was considered a real demi-god or god back in those days he would've been looked at no different than Heracles or Ares. Also being the only demi-god to be allowed to become a full god. Seriously? What woman (Hera) breast feeds her bastard step child giving him god-like strength and then tries to kill him with serpents as a toddler? Seriously. She knows her husband cheated and gives favor only for it to lead to murder? Heracles as a name in itself means "heras glory" yes...the same child she tried to kill. That whole mythological family was screwed up from Hera and Heracles the way down to Zeus with this father Chronos. |
...I don't think you are getting what I am saying. Greek Mythology and all of its vile whatnots are great, but that doesn't make God of War a good story. It just means that it has some cool lore behind it. Watch the Extra Credits video I posted a few posts back for a better description of how God of War's story devolved into rage fueled nothingness.

How else would you propose they buy it?

I understand where you are going and I accept God of War because I accept Greek Mythology for what it was. Dude...Kratos is bascially an OP Hercules with an uncontrollable raged minus the twelve trials. Also, if you know of Greek mythology, its perfectly understandable that Kratos wasn't very smart, but much like Hercules only a warrior who met the duties of a hero. Once again...a hero specifically could not be a god, but rather a demi-god. Sure its a reimagined world...but the creators were not far off with their understanding of how the mythos truly went. It was a blood thirsty world constantly brimming people people who didnt trust one another and constantly trying to overthrow one another. The other major difference between Kratos and Hercules is that Kratos didnt take sides because the majority of the time he was getting screwed over by the gods and the Titans alike. If Zeus couldn't control Kratos...he was better off dead to him. Same thing with Gaia who tricked Kratos into helping her overthrow Zeus (God of War 2) and then turned on him as they ascended Mount Olympus at the beginning of God of War 3.
