1 million in less than a year with no big release but you think it'll only do 6 or 7 million?

Yes, there's some momentum for the PS4 carrying over from the holidays into a batch of new releases, including Dragon Quest Heroes. But saying that its baseline has been above 12k for the past two months isn't anything special because the holidays fell into that timeframe. Likewise, if the PS3 didn't see a new release in the week ending October 27th 2007, then the PS4 matching that right now isn't anything special either (October is a month like most others in Japan). If the PS4 overtakes the PS3 in launch-aligned sales at some point and shows the momentum to stay ahead, then you'll have a talking point. But right now you don't, because the surrounding circumstances are very similar for both consoles. The big exceptions are that gaming on dedicated devices is less popular nowadays (disadvantage for the PS4) and that the PS3 was more expensive (also a disadvantage for the PS4 because future sales boosts due to price cuts are most likely not as big as for the PS3). |
yeah the thing is though i think the ps4 will get much, much cheaper than the ps3 ever was while the ps3 was the main console and when ps4 never existed (before november 15, 2013, ps4's release date)

No big release? It launched with Knack. Still the best-selling PS4 game in Japan. |
lol, but if i was going to add on to my statement, there also hasn't been a single price cut along with the fact that it's been less than a year and no big games.

Like I said. Possibility of 10 mil. And it's sales won't increase that much honestly. It's selling based on hype for the big games. In essence theyre already doing their jobs (not to the fullest ofc) . Exclusives won't matter to sales of ps4 this Gen as much as Xbox one and wii u.

It really depends. For comparison, when the Wii launched strong in Japan, it had the potential to get to 20 million there at least. Then the devs did the unthinkable, they put major franchises exclusively on the 360. Killed any momentum the Wii had in the day. Between that stupidity and devs putting major titles on the DS, put console gaming in a poor position. Japanese devs have already started to pour resources into the PS4 early, so that's one problem solved. Not much they can do with the other problem. Best thing is to hope that Dragon Quest 11 does indeed go to the PS4 and move hardware and Final Fantasy XIV rebuilds customer faith in the product. Between those and more titles in the pipeline, I can see the PS4 reaching 10 million plus. That's really it though :/

10M , thats Being pessimistic
PS4 has a lot of big system seller PS3 hadnt ( a good FF, DQ, KH , ...)
Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:
PS4: 17m XB1: 10m WiiU: 10m Vita: 10m
I can see it reaching 10 million eventually since there's practically no contenders ...
It's almost as if the PS4 had a monopoly on the highest selling 3rd party games in that region since tons of publishers will make sure that the japanese version of the game won't see the light of the day on the Xbox One ...
It should do around 10m LT. It's only a matter of time till we start seeing the big games drop such as FFXV, Bloodborne, P5 and maybe an exclusive DQ. It has better third party support than the competition and devs have been moving on to the PS4 faster than they ever did with the PS3.
