I say around 8m. Could be a little more.
Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

bump because of new ps4 japan sales (looking good for ps4)
It certainly is going to have a good next 3 months

i can see ps4 getting much cheaper than the ps3 though

So? The PS4 is tracking behind the PS3 in launch-aligned sales despite being considerably cheaper. |
huge, system seller worthy titles coming this year, the ps3 released at a time when consoles were much more accepted, the ps3 launch in japan was during the bulk of the holiday season (november 11, 2006), while the ps4 was released during a major dry period (february 23, 2014).

So? It's not like the PS3 lit the charts on fire when it launched. Also, the PS4 has been on the market for almost a year now, so it has gone through a holiday season of its own. Plus the PS3's baseline was something like 8-9k while the PS4's was 5-6k, so the PS3 sold indeed better than the PS4 at a higher price. Lastly, the PS3 also had a lot of system-selling software over the course of its life, so it's not like the PS4 is in a superior position in regards to that. |
me bumping this thread was based on ps4's most recent numbers. it sold 17,392. it's baseline has been above 12,000 for the past two months. i think japan is opening up to consoles a little more now, at least with ps4 if anything. in the same time frame, two weeks before a full year of release in japan, ps3 sold 17,740 in japan (week of october 27, 2007), while the ps4 sold 17,392 in japan in an average week in february with no releases while under the assumption that home consoles are dead in japan. yeah, obviously ps3 had system selling software over it's life, but ps4 has a lot of system selling software (presumably) this year and next year.
It'll be a miracle if it outsells PS3 there, let alone the Wii
10 Million is a fair guess. Console gaming is going downhill there but give em a Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Dragon Quest and things'll take off for sure.
