Forums - Nintendo - Retro basicly just comfirmed a new game announcement coming soon!

@ curl 6 When did you become Nintendo?

That is your opinion. Not Nintendo's or Retro's (unless you work there). It is fine to make suggestions, but it is that spoiled mentality that desecrates a fans ideology of creative freedom for companies providing for us.

''They didn't make what I want, boohoo!'' This is something I don't want to see again, but from the current state of mind of fans it will most likely happen. What a sad world we live in.

Again, it is not about what I want. I would actually buy and likely very much enjoy Diddy Kong Racing 2.

Rather, it is about what is a commercially good idea. These days, Nintendo is quite out of touch with the market, so it doesn't take a seasoned analyst to make a wiser decision than them. I am making a suggestion; that they produce something that doesn't only appeal to existing Wii U owners.

Again, I've given examples of why appealing to those types of gamers isn't very effective. And recent comments from you about the possibility of DKR 2 from Retro doesn't leave the impression of enjoyment.

I understand you want the library to be diverse, but I don't know why Retro has to suffer in order to appeal to this crowd. There are other capable developers within Nintendo's artillery to make the type of game you want. And just because they haven't developed something like that doesn't mean they can't.

You don't know how Diddy Kong Racing 2 will do. The game doesn't exist.

Edit: And great, having a formal discussion and offering up opinions is antagonizing. I am sincerely sorry about any inconvenience I might have caused, Curl 6. Adios.

Edit 2: And that childish comment of Boohoo wasn't talking directly to you, Curl 6. It was a flashback of what happen. I am sorry I didn't make myself clear. I just wanted to start a peaceful conservation that ended with a debacle and childish antics from my part. Sorry.

DKTF was playing it safe; it was essentially a Wii game with a shiny coat of paint, and it took no risks.

I don't disagree that DKC:TF wasn't exactly a risky game to make, but I don't mind because it was probably just about the best 2D platformer I've ever played; significantly better than DKCR.

I wouldn't exactly call a new Metroid game risky, either. Doing another Metroid Prime would be a pretty safe choice. The main way Retro could actually take a risk would be by going with some sort of new IP.

Personally, I'd like to see another studio have a crack at Metroid and do something different with the franchise, and have Retro work on something new in a different genre than what they've done thus far (so not a first-person adventure or a platformer) followed by another DKC title, say, around 2017-18.

Depends on how they did it; if they essentially made a Metroid Prime tha same as the GCN/Wii ones just with graphics on the level of, say, Black Ops II, that would not be ambitious. However, if they made a fresh take that was as evocative, daring, and spared-no-expense as the original Prime was for its era, that would be.

I too would like to see them handle a new IP, but honestly, I expect that crummy Diddy Kong Racing rumour to be true. What a waste that would be.

Sparing no expense doesn't sound like a risk to me, either. So long as the style of the games were reasonably close in style to something we've seen before - and it's hard to imagine Retro trying to turn Metroid into something other than a platformer or a shooter/adventure hybrid. I suppose they could try making a Metroid RPG or something. That would be risky, because it would potentially alienate a lot of existing fans who probably want something close to what they already know.

(Which is kind of funny when you think about it... so many of the people who chastise Nintendo for "making the same games" would probably shut up for five minutes if they got Metroid Prime 4.)

Also I agree with you that a new Diddy Kong Racing wouldn't be in Nintendo's best interests right now. They've got quite a strong selection of local multiplayers games and "family friendly" titles either out already or coming this year. The Wii U could use a bit more in the way of niche games and more specifically adult-oriented titles (though we're getting Star Fox, Xenoblade and Zelda this year, which is a good start). That's why I'd be happy to wait a few years for the next DKC (so long as we get another one on Wii U at some point); as much as I love the game, Wii U isn't at all starved for good platformers right now.

Well, at least I am not alone about Diddy being in Nintendo's best interest from other forum sites. With Amiibo support for the game, the game could do extremely well. I am sad none of you could see the potential. I will shut up, now.

Nintendo should always look for more high-quality local multiplayer games, that's the only segment where they have a real advantage against competiton. It's not coincidence all their best selling console games are specifically made for multiplayer (like Kart and Smash) or have a strong multiplayer component (NSMBU and 3D World).

That said, Retro is always been about single player games, that's where they should stay.

I think there could be a potential but it's not the best choice beacuse, as others said before, WiiU has Mario Kart already. They would end stepping on each others feet.

It has to be Metroid!

Switch!!!

Naturally, this is all theoretical.

But once again, it's not so much about the kind of game I want, it's about the kind of game that would best serve Nintendo, and I can't help but feel that given the backlash we already saw over Tropical Freeze, their image would suffer quite a bit more from committing Retro to Diddy Kong Racing. On the other hand, they could score some cred and potentially attract some new customers with something with more of a wow factor. Just my two cents.

Oh I agree, but in that regard they're still sorted well into the future. Pretty sure Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Yoshi's Woolly World, Mario Maker and Mario Pary 10 all do local multi. Some of the others coming out in 2015 might, too.

Retro haven't always been about single player games, though. Actually, they've done five games (two DK and three Metroid) and both of the DK games plus Prime 2 had multiplayer.

I don't see how. Why is that wrong, but a dark and brooding game is okay? Their is alot of those type of games in the world and not just on this system. A kart racer is like finding a needle in haystack in the overall gaming market. Two kart racers is too much, but a dark action, fps, etc. is okay in an industry filled with them? Wii U has more games like that more than Kart racers.

@Curl 6 ''backlash we already saw over Tropical Freeze, their image would suffer quite a bit more from committing Retro to Diddy Kong Racing.'' That is my problem. Let's say I worked at a game studio, and we are all wanting to develop this one game. We are very passionate about it. However, gamers are desperately wanting something different or, in case of Metroid, a project we've already done before. Are we going to choose to do something that we're passionate about, or do we make a game that everbody else want us to make? It would be smart to do the latter from a business stand point, but we have already set our ambitions to something we, the studio, want to make. Do we give up and be force to make a game that we don't really care about? Creative freedom, or supply and demand? May I remind you guys that we are a very vocal minority so our demands isn't very high like some might have you to believe.

This is hypothetical situation, of course. We don't know how much freedom Retro has, but the point still stands. I know you are thinking what is best for the company, but it is all a matter of conjecture.
