What is being front-loaded? Really curious.

As time has gone on games have been selling ever greater percentages of their total sales within the first week.  The same is showing true for just about evey other electronics launch including iPhones and peripherals as well.  So in addition to this mentality, there is also the fact that last gen lasted WAY too long and so people have been chomping at the bit for something new.  Expect sales to drop off quicker than usual after the first 2-3 years.

Sony doesn't want another 8 year gen anyways - bad for business.

Oh, I get it, thanks :)

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

No Problem :D.  Almost done with MGS Rising - Fun game!

Not impossible, but I don't expect it to. Japan console market has shrunk a lot, so Sony would need to find new growth e.g. in emerging markets.

My 8th gen collection

I think PS4 will keep outselling the PS2 until the end of the generation, but I don't think it will sell 150m.

Don't copy random editorials.

Its doubtful. There were tons of PS2 sales that were repurchases after their first or second PS2 died out. I know I went through 2 PS2s myself before I got one that lasted a while before it died recently. Same with others.

Around the Network

PS2 got everyone and sold for over a decade.
PS4 will never get the Eyetoy/Singstar casual crowd, like Nintendo never will get the Wii casuals back.

More importantly, the Wii should have shown that selling really fast has nothing to do with selling really long.

Another important thing is MS being much togher competition then back in the old days as well as this generation lasting for more or less six years until late 2019 and then looking 120% outdated.

That said, PS4 will sell good. I don't expect it to do less than 100 million but i also don't see it going beyond 130 million.

I'm as well expecting a much faster slowdown in sales than Sony fans are used to.

there is no way. id be shocked if it passed even the ps1. the ps4 is not going to be supported for ten years. its not going to have the longevity that you guys are thinking its going to have. be more realistic about the situation. we can expect ps5 around 2018 and ps4 sales will drop off dramatically when that happens, unlike the ps2. ps4 is going to be very front loaded.

lol hopefully i'll still be on this site so i can bump this

dude, youre predicting that the last of us 2 is going to sell at least 15 million copies. thats a solid 9.5/10 on the scale of nutty predictions.

i was referencing the "id be shocked if it even passed ps1" statement, if you think it won't pass the ps1 than you're nuttier than i am. also the last of us is at 8 million or more on the ps3 by now and sold probably around 3 million on ps4. the last of us 2 will be huge. you're obviously not a fan of ps4 and honestly i think you're very pessimistic about it also if you actually think it won't pass ps1. you actually said you'd be shocked if it passed ps1, meaning you think it won't get anywhere close which is ridiculous.

well, a lot of other people in this thread think its POSSIBLE that it can sell past the wii or the ps1. you can see that actually most people seem to think that ps4 will reach around those levels, which implies that there is also a possibility in their minds that it can sell below that. so i share the opinion of most here that surpassing the ps1 certainly is not a given. and like another user said, the ps4 is built fairly well and will not have the luxury of inflated numbers that the ps2 and 360 had due to faulty consoles. ps4 will sell around 100 million, my guess is closer to 90. its not going to last as long as you guys think its going to last. the hardware is already outdated and it struggles to reach 1080p 60fps. its not a given like we all thought it was going to be before these consoles launched. once 2017 comes, people will be clamoring for new consoles and sony will provide one soon after that. probably in 2018.

the xbox one is selling badly, the wii u is selling badly, the ps4 is the fastest selling console of all time. last generation the wii was the fastest selling console of all time, and the ps3 and 360 sold virtually the same and pretty much tied. here's what i'm saying: all of the people who had a wii and DIDN'T have a ps3 or 360, the majority went to the ps4, and MANY of the 360 guys went to the ps4. the xbox one won't sell as much as the 360, and the wii u will barely reach 20 million if it does at all. all of those extra gamers will be on the ps4.
