PS2 lasted so long because of stupidly large entry level pricing for Xbox 360 and PS3, the successor to the PS4 will not see such high pricepoints and the PS4 will have a same tail to the generation as PS3.

It isnt going to happen. Be happy with the eventual 100-120 Million that its gonna hit.

Nah, it will probably outsell the PS3 and more than likely the PSP, but not the PS2. The X1 is providing fiercer competition than the Xbox and GC. The PS2 had a huge Japan install base and back when Japan still bought a lot of consoles.

If the PS4 can get huge Japan support early and stay on it constantly then there's a chance I guess; in that it could get somewhat close (maybe 130 million). But Japan needs a huge amount of quality successful titles catered to their liking in order for this to happen. FFXV and DQH need to bring in a lot of Japanese gamers over to the PS4 and satisfy them thoroughly for starters. Then those hardcore enthusiasts will spread the word like wildfire and more and more Japanese gamers will buy the PS4.

I'm not seeing the PS4 selling as quickly nor out-living the PS2, so no. I expect 90-120 million PS4 sales, probably something more like the Wii/PS1 though, about 105 mil.

if you understood the market share that the PS2 had and the period of time it was sold and strongly supported you would not say yes. it not realistic to expect it to happen because we are in a different era. again, the PS2 had the benefit of supplying someone with a DVD player (still very relevant at the time) and a gaming platform. I keep hearing people saying that it's gonna slow down but it's not.  Does that even matter?  Where is the evidence to back up the theory that it's slowing down? That it will slow down 'soon'?

I just don't understand why people state there opinions as fact.

there is no way. id be shocked if it passed even the ps1. the ps4 is not going to be supported for ten years. its not going to have the longevity that you guys are thinking its going to have. be more realistic about the situation. we can expect ps5 around 2018 and ps4 sales will drop off dramatically when that happens, unlike the ps2. ps4 is going to be very front loaded.

I think Sony would have to make a bunch of miracles to even get close to the PS2 numbers.

PS3+360>PS4+XB1.

I can therefore say that it has a chance of passing the PS1, but not PS2.
