i was referencing the "id be shocked if it even passed ps1" statement, if you think it won't pass the ps1 than you're nuttier than i am. also the last of us is at 8 million or more on the ps3 by now and sold probably around 3 million on ps4. the last of us 2 will be huge. you're obviously not a fan of ps4 and honestly i think you're very pessimistic about it also if you actually think it won't pass ps1. you actually said you'd be shocked if it passed ps1, meaning you think it won't get anywhere close which is ridiculous.

well, a lot of other people in this thread think its POSSIBLE that it can sell past the wii or the ps1. you can see that actually most people seem to think that ps4 will reach around those levels, which implies that there is also a possibility in their minds that it can sell below that. so i share the opinion of most here that surpassing the ps1 certainly is not a given. and like another user said, the ps4 is built fairly well and will not have the luxury of inflated numbers that the ps2 and 360 had due to faulty consoles. ps4 will sell around 100 million, my guess is closer to 90. its not going to last as long as you guys think its going to last. the hardware is already outdated and it struggles to reach 1080p 60fps. its not a given like we all thought it was going to be before these consoles launched. once 2017 comes, people will be clamoring for new consoles and sony will provide one soon after that. probably in 2018.

the xbox one is selling badly, the wii u is selling badly, the ps4 is the fastest selling console of all time. last generation the wii was the fastest selling console of all time, and the ps3 and 360 sold virtually the same and pretty much tied. here's what i'm saying: all of the people who had a wii and DIDN'T have a ps3 or 360, the majority went to the ps4, and MANY of the 360 guys went to the ps4. the xbox one won't sell as much as the 360, and the wii u will barely reach 20 million if it does at all. all of those extra gamers will be on the ps4.

last generation actually saw market expansion though, so that point about the wii selling 100m while the other two still sold well doesnt really apply because the market expanded in the seventh gen and then will shrink this gen. your whole argument here rests on the assumption that everybody who bought a video game console last gen will continue buying them this gen.

point still stands if you take away a lot of the casuals that were on the wii, MANY people that had a 360 will be on the ps4 this generation, and MANY people that actually do play video games will not have a wii u. all of thos extras plus the people who are playstation fans which is a lot of people will be on ps4. trust me, it will outsell the ps1, and if i'm still around, i will bump this, and hopefully if you're still around we can all make jokes about this.

Xbone isn't selling badly. Compared to both it's predecessors it even does fine in europe. It's just the PS4 doing far better that lets it look bad.
MS just wont dominate anywhere.
Sony is selling fast, but that doesn't say that they'll sell long. And there's millions of PS2 customers, that went to smartphone and tablet. That casual crowd Sony got back then as well as the 'core' gamers. Those mobile japanese, that don't seem to buy any home console today.

Last gen market growth: keep in mind that the last console gen was seven/eight years for MS and Sony. PS2 was sold over 12 years. This gen neither will last as long nor be sold as long.

Sure, PS4 is selling extremely well right now and will do so for some time. But with much tougher competition from MS than back in PS2 days from all competitors together, shorter lifecycle than last gen and, actually important, a trend to early jumpon every bandwagon by customers.

again i'm going to sound like a fanboy but the only reason it's selling better than it's predecessors is because of the fire sales that the original and the 360 didn't have

Not trolling but to out sell the ps2 ps4 slim will need to have a significant defect that requires multiple purchase

You mean the One? Well, it even sells better in europe at the moment. First Xbox startet with an extremely high price (479,-€ i think) and then dropped very fast. Didn't help it.

360 had one year headstart, was really powerful back then for it's money and still did not sell that well.

The One does actually even sell better in europe, without official pricecuts.

I wouldn't expect it to do better than the 360 overall. But it will do way better than the original Xbox. And that without being the most powerful console, pricetag on par with PS4...

Did the temparary pricecut help? Sure. But that wasn't a thing in continental Europe.

As for PS4, it would need to sell on a high level for a long time, get those PS2 casuals back (unlikely) or draw in much more coregamers in a gaming ecosystem that has changed totally.

I'd really say that the One will do better than the first Xbox but worse than 360 and PS4 will do worse than PS2 but better than PS3. Again, both with shorter lifecycles than last gen.

I think it's possible best on how it's selling so far.
