Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One Just went Super Saiyan with Unlocked CPU Power

"the console even beat Sony's Playstation 4 for total sales in one month."

It did? I thought PS4 outsold it ~2.6 to ~2.3 million in November.

Microsoft's Xbox One has captured the love of many gamers since its release in 2013. Since, its been the bearer of a number of really strong titles, and recently, the console even beat Sony's Playstation 4 for total sales in one month. It's a great time to be an Xbox gamer.

You'll be happy to hear that things are going to get even better!

During the Christmas Break, hacking group H4LT released a number of different documents containing sensitive material, all pertinent to Microsoft's Xbox One. In these documents were the development tools that studios now have access to, and we're pretty excited at one of these revelations...

Apparently, the latest development tools issued to studios allow those studios to use more of the Xbox One's power. Microsoft had previously relegated some of the console's processing power to running the background menus and such, but it looks like they might have overcompensated.

While this might result in improved gameplay from the console, there are a couple of things that developers will have to sacrifice in order to utilize this extra processing power.

These include:

  • Game-specific voice commands
  • Full Kinect functionality

Sure, it's a small list, but those are also part of Microsoft's visions for the Xbox One. Maybe we're learning that it's really just about the games, and less about the cool knick-knacks and peripherals.

1. "It's a good time to be an Xbox gamer" = Yeah right ;-0

2. About the increased Cpu power = It isn't going to do any difference. The CPU in the xbone is already stronger than that found in the Ps4. The GPU makes all the difference.

Send a Friend Request On PSN :P

Sooooo 910p from this moment on?

I still remember when the PSPs processor was fully unlocked from 266 to 333.... now that was a gamechanger

And this will result in 1080p 30fps? No? Then who cares!

Both PS4 AND XOne are very similar in performance.

Most people don't get it - 50% more GPU power may make the environment look brighter, but not the AI acting in it.

Ubisoft was disappointed as they expected to be able to calculate 10 TIMES more AIs !!

Both consoles feature notebook cores combined with a middle class desktop GPU. Depending on how the game mechanics and world works XOne (more CPU calculations) or PS4 (more GPU calculations) is better.

It will needs years to adapt CPU code to GPUs. It is much easier to make CPU code more efficient.

If Microsoft frees CPU resources by disabling OS tasks or moving to a more efficient graphics stack this will help every single game.

Whereas each Sony developer has to take the burden to move their own code to the GPU to "catch up" with a faster XOne CPU...

At the end the XOne has a better balanced hardware from a developers perspective. Only beaten by the Wii U (which does wonders for its raw power)...

Too bad Sony managed to brainwash people with misleading numbers and getting around failing to deliver the software which proves their claims.

Yup, that really made emulators and bootlegs run better.

Bolded is how I know you have completely no idea what you are talking about, and are completely driven by preferential statements. In short you are attempting to "prove" that Xbox 1 is better balanced from a developer's perspective, (Complete Opinion) because you claim GPU is weaker than CPU(Provably False). PROTIP: It's not. GPUs are much more computationally powerful than CPUs (FACT), they are just limited in what they can do vs CPUs. However, in terms of the most intensive computational needs of a game, 9/10 GPU is vastly more important.

The Witcher 3 running at 4k 60fps with ultra settings confirmed for Xbox One then.

So did it really take half the X1's power to be able to run the background portions of things like fighters destiny? because the difference between 720 and 1080 is around double the number of pixels so it'll take that amount of freed up power to get the two systems running the same sort of games.

Is this thread a joke? the original article? I don't get it? Is it the first of April already?

What joke? Ms and Sony played safe in the beginning in reserving CPU power and ram. Ms now freed one CPU core for developers. As we don't exactly know how much current games depend on CPU power and how much they are needed to feed the gpus we don't know how this will affect future games. But it definitely won't be to their disadvantage.
