Forums - Gaming - Iwata: Most of the Time and Resources Spent on Cut-Scenes Could Be Spent on Something Else

Sure, there are better ways to tell a story in a game.

Hurry up and make a new "Another Code" / "Kyle Hyde" story you sods, then I might buy your things. I'll never forgive you for letting CiNG die, though.

Agree, that was cruel and I never really understood the reason for leaving in the dust such a loyal and unique (not to mention small and cheap) studio, especially over such a measly sum they owed. Of all the studios which closed doors over the recent years, I might miss Cing the most.

Isn't this the reason why Destiny was hated? Because it didn't have a cutscene and a story that was spoon-fed to the audience.

In a way Destiny is a lot like Nintendo games. Very little story is actually told directly. Most of it you infer through the gameplay and objectives.

There is a story. All on their website.

Cut scenes are a pretty time honored way of story telling in video games. If Iwata wants to call out cut scenes, I doubt I'd be the first to say that most of the time and resources put into the gamepad could have been better spent elsewhere.

Yeah I know. But I can kind of see why they chose to not fill the game up with lots of cutscenes and text. It's just like Iwata said, people tend to skip those a lot, in particular when you are playing with friends in co-op. You want to get straight to the action. That's kind of what Destiny does because the whole game is built around co-op.

Resident Evil 4 had some memorable cutscenes, particularly the Kruser knife fight. If they're good/interesting, keep them. But no visual masturbatory - make them skippable.

"You should be banned. Youre clearly flaming the president and even his brother who you know nothing about. Dont be such a partisan hack"

I usually skip them unless the story of the game is really good.

I would like some more Adventures like the ones from Cing. Where did the people go to and where lie the rights to Another Code and Hotel Dusk IPs now with Cing gone?

I think that has more to do with games having crap stories but insisting on trying to tell a story anyway than with the nature of cutscenes.

He talked about the resource put into cutscenes not the crappyness of stories. You argue from a standpoint if you like cutscenes or not, but his point was an economical one.
