Forums - Gaming - Iwata: Most of the Time and Resources Spent on Cut-Scenes Could Be Spent on Something Else

I agree!

that's why I hope the next Zelda has as few cut scenes as possible and more gameplay instead

Well, it depends on the game really. Some games do cutscenes really well while others just have too many of them so yea I guess?

Just played a new game on new super mario bros, 30 second mandatory cutscene was too much.

Meanwhile I can't imagine a Final Fantasy without the mandatory 2 hours cutscenes as the intro (of course there are a few minutes of fight/exploration in the middle)

Well, thats the difference between doing a great cutscene vs doing a bad one. Like for example, when I am playing Love Death 4, it has like 2 hours worth of cutscenes until there is any real sex so I hold the skip button and bam, skip through that entire nonsense vs say MGS, I can't get enough of those cutscenes! It truly depends on the game

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

I think that has more to do with games having crap stories but insisting on trying to tell a story anyway than with the nature of cutscenes.

As long as they're done well I don't mind...

Is this directed at Kojima? XD

Says the guy who had to waterboard me with them in HyWa.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

so your telling me project giant robot wont have any cut scenes?

I think it's directed at anyone who, in the mid-90's, saw the amount of space on a CD and thought "holy shit what are we gonna fill that with"

And decided to fill it with WOW LOOK AT THIS instead of game. Some people still expect this, and they need to be harshly whipped.

WHERE IS MY KORORINPA 3

Al long as the cutscenes aren't the primary reason to play the game, I'm down.

This. The amount of games I've sat through and thought ''why are there cutscenes when the story is trash and obviously not what I'm here for''.

Also depends on the game whether the cutscenes are more effective then anything that could done in game. TLOU really is prime example of game knowing exactly when something calls for cinematics or in game narrative.
