It had amazing games and was insanely cheap, yet it sold like shit. I'll just enjoy the amazing games out for the system already and coming int he future. You guys can brag about how many sales your system has. |
The difference is the PS2 had an insane number of high quality exclusive games on a scale that had not been seen since the NES days. GameCube couldn't compete with that. Nowadays, the console with the best games is selling the worst. I think branding and marketing really plays a big part in it. Most people who are buying a PS4 don't even know what they're buying it for. But they had have enough faith in the PlayStation brand to invest into something that isn't exactly that appealing. This is where Sony benefited from a long 7th generation. They had years to repair the damage the PS3 had done in it's early days on the market. Sony may not have made a dime on the PS3 but the system still came out as a winner in the minds of consumers. I think if Nintendi had a smoother transition between Wii and Wii U and if they would have had a clear marketing strategy and message from the beginning, then things would be better.
By now, it's apparent that Nintendi cannot win. That shouldn't be their focus. Their focus right now should be to cater to the small fanbase they have. Don't dump the Wii U. Don't tell the 8 million Wii U owners out there that their Gamepad is worthless (even though that's next to impossibe). Treat them like kings. That way, they can start out the 9th generation strong.

I would have to strongly disagree. I would see the Wii U @ 10 million by March 2015 at the latest. Regarding the word "dead", the console is will sell another 10 million easily. "Dead" would infer that every existing console will implode and that they will sell no more even though they have seen an increases from last year, every month this year and their sales are looking strong coming up to Christmas compared to last year.
Only a certain amount of people can purchase a console in one week. There weren't many Wii U offers and yet, they still outsold last year. So yeah, Not Dead. The DOOOOOOM has become obnoxious.

From the same PR that leads people to claim 242k (although it's actually "at least 247.5k", if we're talking NPD as accurate), we get this: "In fact, the week of Nov. 23 was the biggest single week of Wii U hardware sales since the system launched in November 2012"
But please, don't let facts get in the way.
EDIT: Is anybody even the slightest bit surprised, once you consider that there is just one week of Smash Bros in that month? Based on Nintendo's PR, they did over 150k in that one week.

So Black Friday prevented the Wii U from having an absolutely dreadful month? Or conversely, Wii U sales have been so bad in the US that a single week can overshadow 103 previous weeks despite the launch of a number of high profile titles in that time frame?

You do realise that those previous weeks include the previous Black Friday, as well as the December month where Nintendo has always done best, right?
I always find it funny when people try to turn positives into negatives, by the way. "Wii U has best week of sales yet" becomes "it did even worse before".
I also find it funny that you tried to cast this as "an abolutely[sic] dreadful month". Is it incredibly high? No. But a quarter of a million people bought Wii Us in that month. I'd like to see you achieve that sort of sell-through of any product.

Lol, brilliant. "You criticize something, I'd like you do better!!", now we've really reached kindergarten level of arguing.
Brings back memories of the summer months on here.
Am I missing something? didnt the Wii U sell 380k this November?

Imagine predicting 10m by the end of 2013 and attacking anyone who said otherwise (referring to the one who shall not be named)
