| irstupid said: Make all the predictions you want about a price cut or what game will save the system, it don't matter. I mean look at the gamecube. It had amazing games and was insanely cheap, yet it sold like shit. I'll just enjoy the amazing games out for the system already and coming int he future. You guys can brag about how many sales your system has. |
The difference is the PS2 had an insane number of high quality exclusive games on a scale that had not been seen since the NES days. GameCube couldn't compete with that. Nowadays, the console with the best games is selling the worst. I think branding and marketing really plays a big part in it. Most people who are buying a PS4 don't even know what they're buying it for. But they had have enough faith in the PlayStation brand to invest into something that isn't exactly that appealing. This is where Sony benefited from a long 7th generation. They had years to repair the damage the PS3 had done in it's early days on the market. Sony may not have made a dime on the PS3 but the system still came out as a winner in the minds of consumers. I think if Nintendi had a smoother transition between Wii and Wii U and if they would have had a clear marketing strategy and message from the beginning, then things would be better.
By now, it's apparent that Nintendi cannot win. That shouldn't be their focus. Their focus right now should be to cater to the small fanbase they have. Don't dump the Wii U. Don't tell the 8 million Wii U owners out there that their Gamepad is worthless (even though that's next to impossibe). Treat them like kings. That way, they can start out the 9th generation strong.
