You're supposed to use month over month for that kind of metric, not year over year. Who even remembers what came out last holiday? (rhetorical) |
Umm I'm looking at November of 2013 and November of 2014, not much of an increase.
When will Wii U hit 10 million LT sales | |||
| Janurary | 35 | 17.86% | |
| February | 17 | 8.67% | |
| March | 38 | 19.39% | |
| Beyond March | 56 | 28.57% | |
| Who knows | 38 | 19.39% | |
| Results say | 12 | 6.12% | |
| Total: | 196 | ||

I mean prior month to current month. iow October 2014 vs November 2014. It works better in less peak periods though. A good example of the metric in action was the month Mario Kart 8 came out. A boost month over month was obvious because we knew that in the month prior nothing important came out. |
Consoles generally sale better during the holiday season though. So although Smash Bros. did make Wii U sales increase month over month, it was also suppose to raise Wii U's number YoY. This is especially true because it was positioned to release in the US first before any other region in order to be ready for black friday sales.
However, I don't blame Smash Bros for not helping Wii U sales rise up YoY. I blame Nintendo for not deciding to bundle and price drop their system when Sony and Microsoft did. But seeing how low Wii U sales are, I also understand why a Smash Bro bundle or price drop didn't happen.

So Smash Bros couldn't save the WiiU? So much for a super-unrivaled-GOTY lol... But there's always Pokken I suppose.

No, YoY is the more realistic and common way of comparing data.

Very disappointing month in terms of sales.

We still got December and Christmas shopping coming up soon, but November is also pretty important in the US because of black friday sales which basically start the holiday shopping season here. With Smash Bros Wii U, amiibo, and Mario Kart 8's first holiday sales, the Wii U sold just 17k more than last year. Hopefully Nintendo takes note of these numbers because North America has always been their biggest market for home consoles. Again, December is coming up so Nintendo can still try to make some last minute decisions to help their system moving. |
Your math is not good, Nintendo stated that Wii U sold 10% more than last november, thats about 24k not 17k.
It has actually been this way all year outside of the late spring/early summer boost Mario Kart caused (2013 had nothing noteworthy in this time period, hence the YoY increase).
Trimester 1 (pre-Mario Kart)
2013-225k, major releases Lego City (March)
2014-250k, major releases DKC (February)
Trimester 2 (Mario Kart launch)
2013-135k, major releases Pikmin (August)
2014-340k, major releases Mario Kart (May)
Trimester 3 (post Mario Kart, excluding December)
2013 -360k, major releases Wind Waker+3D World
2014-400k, major releases Hyrule Warriors+Smash U
The first & third trimesters of the year are pretty similar with 2014 up by about 10%. The only part of the year with significant growth is when Mario Kart released which happens to be when Wii U had nothing noteworthy in the previous year. If 2013 had a major release in May/June then we likely would have seen only a modest growth YoY like the rest of the year when the release schedules were similar.

Don't worry Wii U, put in a good 2015 and your friends are waiting for you in video game heaven ...

People will appreciate you more in oh ... 6-10 years from now. DC and GCN are so adorable.
It's really unfortunate... I was hoping that Smash would help the WiiU just a bit more! :/

Nintendo doesn't care about increasing the user base anymore. They just want to get the most profits they can and try harder next time.
