I see everyone thinks it's a success but I don't.

I mean, Nintendo deployed special promotional displays for this and Amiibo is taking up lots of Nintendo shelf space.

Consider that Amiibo is much cheaper than a game, and I figure profit is 6 or 7 times lower than a game. So, divide the sales by 7 to compare to a game. If a big Nintendo game sold only 100k in US in first 2 weeks esp. during Black Friday it would be considered a massive failure, especially given the shelf space.

What were ur expectations for Amiibo? In the US it sold at a ratio of 1:1 with its flagship game. Did u really expect every Smash owner to purchase multiple Amiibo's at launch?

Were u honestly expecting something like 2-3 million Amiibos sold in 9 days?

Now that 7 or so more days have passed and counting Europe and Japan I'd say it's safe to say Nintendo has made a cool $9 million+ off Amiibo's (once you take into account the retailers cut and the cost to make them).

Not bad, not bad at all. That's $9 million Nintendo wouldn't have had otherwise.

Bets:

1. If the Wii U sells closer to 10 million LTD by 1/3/2015 I win. If it sells closer to 9.5 million LTD by 1/3/2015 OfficerRaichu15 wins (winner gets 2 weeks of avatar control)--Lost.

I was hoping to see up to 2 million Amiibos.  For one I thought Smash would sell more.  Also these are usable for MK8 and HW as well, and for Smash 3DS.  Obviously, I was wrong.

There are only 3 million Wii U owners in America and it sold over 700k games, thats a high percentage of people who own the game in the U.S. bro, this is higher then anything on Xbox or Sony for any 1st party game........if you count the other regions Amiibo did sell over 1 million, and I am guessing in America is the only place where did promotions so they save money over seas from not doing any serious promotions so the profit could be higher then we think..........this is great money to add, especially since Wii U already stop selling as a loss, its only up hill for Nintendo here, no one have to worry about them as a company no more

I don't think Smash 3DS has Amiibo support yet, also MK8/HW are just for costumes/weapons. Smash U is the only game with legitimate Amiibo support.

U also have to take into account that these are only US numbers. Worldwide sales by the end of the year could easily be 3 million or so. If Nintendo is making $6-7 back then that's about $20 million from Amiibo's in just over a month.

for 3 million Wii U system owners, how much Smash bros did you want Nintendo to sell, 2 million, 3 million?????

just look at the percentage of people who own it, 700,000 games sold for 3 million American Wii U console owners........this is almost 1/3 bro..........Infamous do not have that percentage for ps4, halo do not have that percentage for xbox one....none of sony or xbox 1st party games have that percentage........I think we can call it great sales.........if you look at new american sales VG chartz posted...... those 700,000 and more sales pass or will pass

The LAst of us which have 767,000 sales and it been on the shelf for 18 weeks

Grand Theft Auto 5 on Xbox one with 704,000 sales been on shelf for 2 weeks

Call of Duty Warfare on PS3 with 743,000 sales been on shelf for 4 weeks

Madden NFL 15 on Xbox 360 with 774,000 sales been on shelf for 14 weeks

Halo Collection on Xbox One with 889,000 sales been on shelf for 3 weeks

Little Big Planet 3 on PS4 with 156,000 sales been on shelf for 2 weeks

Dragon Age PS4 258,000 sales been on shelf for 2 weeks

Dragon Age Xbox One 202,000 sales been on shelf for 2 weeks

Madden NFL 15 on Ps3 501,000 sales been on shelf for 14 weeks

Far Cry 4 Xbox One 196,000 sales been on shelf for 2 weeks

Far Cry 4 PS4 301,000 sales been on shelf for 2 weeks....

There are other games

but look how much consoles they have in America compared to the Wii U

Xbox One 5.1 million

PS4 5.9 Million

PS3 26 million

360 44 Million

Wii U 3 Million

so Yeah it did pretty good, anything higher then 700k for Smash Bros would of been beyond good

its same with Bayonetta sales, people said it fail in Japan but at the time there was not even 2 million  Japan owners yet, how much Bayonetta coould you expect to sell with less then 2 million owners.......

I think it's a success, and I like them a lot personally. Got Link and Fox now, going for Pit when he arrives!

Definitely a success, but could have easily sold more if it wasnt severely understocked.

Wave 2 released here in Australia today and pretty much all sold out. Was lucky my pre orders were filled.

yeah im not voting in that poll.

Im not interested in amiibo at all. The movie 40 year old virgin comes to mind about those things LOL

On the thread topic, It seems like it was a success, some seem happy with them, personally i think its trash that it only holds 1 game save which is piss poor.

A success obviously! They certainly did better than I expected!
