A success considering the fact that they're practically useless for the moment. I might get the Samus Aran amiibo at some point, but that's it. I'm not paying €15 for some costume in a game.

Neither, how they sell after Christmas will decide.

Financially a success right now? yes.

Popularity? undecided, you need non-seasonal spiked data to really tell.

Nintendo has 200k amiibos by the end of 2014 for france as a guess

700k amiibos sold in US in 2 weeks

thats 900k amiibos in france and US at mininum

you think its a sucess or failure?

This is bigger then a sucess, no matter what Nintendo do now they will be posting profits, not because of this but because they do not lose money on the Wii U no more, so with no money being lost any more, this is just all profits now, Nintendo probably in their next finanical report will probably make up all the money they lost for this gen in just a short period of time. DLC are selling, people are downloading more and more each year, they are swimming in money right now and mind you they are already worth more than Sony.....this extra money will be more cushion to keep them ahead of sony

Selling an average of one amiibo to each owner of Smash Bros actually sounds excellent to me.

and get this, that number was for the U.S. alone, if you count other places its a lot more, I wonder how much money they make off each.....I just preorder Pitt Amiibo

700k seems like a lot until you realize that it's only roughly 10M$ in revenue (revenue, not profits. Nintendo probably gets half of that amount. So they probably made 5M$ in profits from Amiibo's which is peanuts for a company like Nintendo). The problem with these low priced products is that you have to sell a lot in order for them to be worthwhile. But we'll see, if they can sell 500k-1m per month, then that's what I'd call a success.

EDIT: I wouldn't call them a failure. I'd say that Amiibo's have been a moderate success so far.

The thing is those peanuts count no matter what, if its to fund a game, buy an exclusive, or even saving it with the other billions they save to keep stacking their money. That 5 million of easy profit will help keep them being worth more then Sony, and the best thing about it, is that Wii U do not sell for a loss no more, so these peanuts, with Wii U profits, 3ds profits and Nintendo is rolling in with money.......if things go really well in one quarter they may be able to erase all the loss they had for this generation and become like the Gamecube........The gamecube if people look up their profits and losses will show Nintendo never loss a profit, they made money that whole generation, more money then sony made from the ps2, so even if they do not sell as much system as the Wii, they can move back to what they use to do, which is making money, and hope the next generation things may turn their way.

I see everyone thinks it's a success but I don't.

I mean, Nintendo deployed special promotional displays for this and Amiibo is taking up lots of Nintendo shelf space.

Consider that Amiibo is much cheaper than a game, and I figure profit is 6 or 7 times lower than a game. So, divide the sales by 7 to compare to a game. If a big Nintendo game sold only 100k in US in first 2 weeks esp. during Black Friday it would be considered a massive failure.  The sales to shelf space ratio is really low compared to a game.

I wont get all of them myself, only the ones I want just incase a future game come out that have them in it, for example I just preorder Pitt tonight, I will get Shulk preorder next because Xenoblade coming out since Nintendo own the company they will put some type of Amiibo effect in there so owning Shulk will be a good buy........and I am getting Ike, I love Ike.....and since the Fire Emblem game is still coming I am guessing it will have some type of effect with the game........so yep thats what I am doing
