700k seems like a lot until you realize that it's only roughly 10M$ in revenue (revenue, not profits. Nintendo probably gets half of that amount. So they probably made 5M$ in profits from Amiibo's which is peanuts for a company like Nintendo). The problem with these low priced products is that you have to sell a lot in order for them to be worthwhile. But we'll see, if they can sell 500k-1m per month, then that's what I'd call a success.

EDIT: I wouldn't call them a failure. I'd say that Amiibo's have been a moderate success so far.

The thing is those peanuts count no matter what, if its to fund a game, buy an exclusive, or even saving it with the other billions they save to keep stacking their money. That 5 million of easy profit will help keep them being worth more then Sony, and the best thing about it, is that Wii U do not sell for a loss no more, so these peanuts, with Wii U profits, 3ds profits and Nintendo is rolling in with money.......if things go really well in one quarter they may be able to erase all the loss they had for this generation and become like the Gamecube........The gamecube if people look up their profits and losses will show Nintendo never loss a profit, they made money that whole generation, more money then sony made from the ps2, so even if they do not sell as much system as the Wii, they can move back to what they use to do, which is making money, and hope the next generation things may turn their way.
