Forums - Sales - No sales milestone announcement to PlayStation Experience?

Fair enough...

Sony has shipped 13.5M since launch  article put up Oct 31st (not middel of november as you calimed)
FY15
Q2 - 3.3M (quater ending sept 2014)
Q1 - 2.7M
FY14
Q4 - 3M
Q3 - 4.5M (opening quater)

Now let us ignore the PR or spin or whatever you wanna call it. And just look at their shipment numbers. Notice the numbers are ramping up in FY14Q2? 3.3M from 2.7M the previous quater. Now I will ask you a simple question. Do you thik the numbers for the quater that consists of the months of Oct-december would be higher, lower or the same with the FY15Q2 quater.

Another fact, the quater of oct-dec has historically always had sales that doiuble or even triple normal quater sales. Do you want to dispute this too?

Now lastly, I find it really really ironical that you say "you will not draw a conclusion based on suspicion"
So what would you call what you are doing right now? What you are saying is based on the suspicion that they made an announcement in december while refering to numbers posted as of september. Its based on the conclusion that sony, has not been able to ship 3M consoles between october and november and as thus cannot possibly be the fastest selling console as of the end of december.

All you seem to be doing is drawing conclusions based on your own suspicions.

correct.  it is fact that as of last shipment ps4 had 13.5M units shipped.

it is also fact for the same time frame wii had shipped less.  13.17 to be exact.

so we know the label of "fastest selling console" was true at the time of the quarterly shippments.   that is all we know..

Guess it did. Just saw it myself.

Won bet with t3mporary_126 - I correctly predicted that the Wii U's LTD at the end of 2014 would be closer to 9 million than 10 million. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6673287

I don't understand why some people will take what they know, ignore it, then replace it with what they think. How or why in God's name will they be referencing september sales in the first week of december when making an announcement about being the fastest selling console ever. Don't you think you are reaching there? If they said this in october or even november i could somehow agree with you. But they announced that just this past weekend yet you are somehow convinced they are refering to numbers based in september. smh.......

This so much!

The answer is simple. Numbers are perfectly calculated (because they have to be) in ....quarterly reports....when was the end of the last quarter ? September. So dismissing others logic, based on this understanding that they could do this, they could do that.  KItler of all people isn't the type to downplay Sony for the sake of it either.

I would like to add to your post that the quarterly reports are due by the last day of the month following the end of the quarter.  So that would mean the numbers would have to be filed by November 30th, which is days before the Playstation Experience.  Another thing to add would be what others have posted, which is the last number that was seen on screen "14,092,599".  Could this be the number that they have on file by the end of September?

(You mean October 30th). Also I believe end of September was 13.5ish number.

I honestly would just wait till January's report to see if it remained the fastest selling console, because Sony wouldn't have access to all of Nintendo's sell data on a monthly or weekly bases (as good as trackers are, they aren't strong in each market), but quarterly reports are factual numbers.

My thoughts here:

So they announce >10 million sold in early August, and 13.5 million shipped by the end of September.

They sold 728k in the US alone in August+September, so that's 10.7 million right there.

Assuming ratios between the US and ROTW remained constant within 5% since the last couple of sales updates (about 35:65), ROTW should be anywhere between 1,092,000 and 1,699,000. That means sales would be anywhere between 11.8 million to 12.4 million sold at the end of September (Basically where VGC has it at).

Now in October, we saw sales go down in the US (of course) by 45%. Now ROTW might not of dropped as much, but still, if the ratio remained constant this month as well, then that is additional 446k to 693k in ROTW. That means sales as of October could be anywhere from 12.5 million to 13.4 million (VGC is within the range, but closer to the high end).

Now November. This is most likely the cause of everything. Assuming the number of PS4's at the end of October are the high end, 13.4 million, they only sold 700k in November. An impossibility. If they were closer to the lower end, 12.5 million, then they sold 1.6 million in November. A possible outcome, as we have no idea on what the US sales are in November until Thursday, and the number would be close to the low end estimate of August+September, which were pretty strong months for PS4 sales.

Or a more likely scenario. These numbers don't include the final week of November.

My bad...I totally meant October and not November  lol

Did I miss a milestone announcement at PlayStation Experience?

If I did NOT miss it.. It would seem likely that the 16.1 million VGC has is overtracked. WHY would they NOT announce hitting 16 million consoles.

All I caught was them saying right now it is the fasting selling console of all time.. I heard know NUMBERS mentioned..    Is it possible that 16 million is overtracked?

20 Million doesn't seem possible with the previous history of Black Friday week sales vs first 3 weeks of December..   It might be VERY close, but seems like it would be JUST short..    Would be nice if it hit it by the EOY though..

What's up with those Caps locked words? It just makes you sound... a certain way, if you ask me.

And no milestone because no milestone? Wait for the end of december, you'll get your miletsone.

Of course it's possible. If you close your eyes right, and wish really really hard, anything is possible!

Do we know where that counter stopped at?

Here

Is there supposed to be a picture here? Because I can't see it.
What number did the counter stop at, in text form?

Right before reaching 14,100,000

What I wonder is, could those numbers in the opening montage actually be sales figures?

I mean, what else could it be?

Do you actually believe that vgchartz suddenly has the PS4 overtracked by 2 million?

Maybe the PS4 isn't selling "as well" as we think?

Do we know where that counter stopped at?

It's not 2m overtracked.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

They don't need to announce sales numbers every conference....They can do it when it reaches 20m.
