I don't understand why some people will take what they know, ignore it, then replace it with what they think. How or why in God's name will they be referencing september sales in the first week of december when making an announcement about being the fastest selling console ever. Don't you think you are reaching there? If they said this in october or even november i could somehow agree with you. But they announced that just this past weekend yet you are somehow convinced they are refering to numbers based in september. smh.......

This so much!

The answer is simple. Numbers are perfectly calculated (because they have to be) in ....quarterly reports....when was the end of the last quarter ? September. So dismissing others logic, based on this understanding that they could do this, they could do that. KItler of all people isn't the type to downplay Sony for the sake of it either.

I would like to add to your post that the quarterly reports are due by the last day of the month following the end of the quarter. So that would mean the numbers would have to be filed by November 30th, which is days before the Playstation Experience. Another thing to add would be what others have posted, which is the last number that was seen on screen "14,092,599". Could this be the number that they have on file by the end of September?

(You mean October 30th). Also I believe end of September was 13.5ish number.
I honestly would just wait till January's report to see if it remained the fastest selling console, because Sony wouldn't have access to all of Nintendo's sell data on a monthly or weekly bases (as good as trackers are, they aren't strong in each market), but quarterly reports are factual numbers.
