Forums - Gaming - If certain consoles can't acheive 1080p now, what happens in a couple years?

I don't want to get banned so I will not mention any consoles. Will multiplats be affected? I would hate to see games be limited because of one console or the other. How does this play out? Will COD 2020 look like COD 2015?

Easy. Just buy exclusives. But COD 2020 you won't play on current gen consoles And if you do, it will look way better on next-gen consoles and you can argue that current-gen consoles perhaps might be holding back the next-gen version.

As technology to make games increases so will games and consoles abilities. Engines will get better to handle it and I think in 3 to 4 years, 1080p with 60 will be easy (as easy as making a computer game is). but resolution isn't all that, games will look better because technologies to make games will make them look better, I mean Uncharted was 720p and so was Uncharted 3, 3 looks a lot better graphically.

Hmm, pie.

600p, please understand.

What happens? What happens already now, people who care 1080 playing games on PC and pray consoles don't dumb down games again sadly they already do...

Are you serious?! Frames per second is the more important than pixelcount...

LOL implying the difference from 1080 to 720 is gamebreaking.

My tv can't even play 720p properly, I don't really care. Fps's are another story.

You don't even have a 720P TV? What kind of a TV do you have?

This one Samsung Syncmaster 940MW.

(I had to buy an dvi cable cause it doesn't even have hdmi entrance)

Then again I play games, I don't really care for graphics as long as they look alright.

Also GTAV looks way better on PS4 compared to XOne. The very good developers will always do a better version for PS4, for obvious reasons, and 1080p is guaranteed.

AS the gen goes on you might find even the mighty PS4 might have to lower it's resolution to accomidate future games. 1080 is a buzz word at the moment, a few years from now once everybody starts arguing over the GAMES each console has nobody will care.

Haha... interesting replies to your thread. Not all that unexpected. Anyways, I will try and give you an unbiased answer.

These consoles have only been out for a year. And in the case of MS, they have already made improvements to the APIs which will allow devs better use their platform. Expect sony to be doing the same in some way or form. But thats just one part of the equation. Another part of it is that like every console before now, with more time devs get better at doing what they do with the consoles. They would continually find out what works and what doesn't work and how best to get the most outta their engines running on any specific console. And lastly, I expect resources like RAM tied up for the respective console OSs to be given back to developers at some point. Not a lot but enough to make a difference.

Having said all that I actually believe that with time we would either see more games hit 1080p on the XB1 or the XB1 will settle for being a 900p console (nothing wrong with that). I believe that majority of the games on the PS4 will be hitting that 1080p mark. GTA4 was 720p on both the PS360. GTA5 was also 720p but looked waay better than GTA4. No reason why such improvements from better all round knowledge of the systems won't happen this gen too.

They already do? Talk like that just makes you sound ignorant. Here, have some info and make of it what you will. Taken from Steam.

  • ~50% of Steam users are using less 4GB of CPU RAM or less
  • ~88% are using CPUs with 4 cores or less
  • ~75% are using GPUs with less than 2GB or RAM
  • ~95% are using monitors/displays with 1080p or less
But somehow, consoles (PS4/XB1) are limiting PCs? I think some PC gamers aren't actually being very realistic. They don't seem to realize that even within their platform they are a very vocal minority. They seem to take what is "possible" with PCs as the norm. But thats all so far from the truth its not even funny.
