Forums - Gaming - If certain consoles can't acheive 1080p now, what happens in a couple years?

I don't want to get banned so I will not mention any consoles. Will multiplats be affected? I would hate to see games be limited because of one console or the other. How does this play out? Will COD 2020 look like COD 2015?

Anyone who cares about graphics owns a PC not a console. Its not worth their time optimizing console games cause its a waste of budget to go too far out of the way to make a few whiney bitches happy. Console owners know by buying weak unified hardware that they are paying for ease of use and not graphics.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't most games which start on consoles and get ported over to PC run better as well? It's not just about ease of use but also stability.

It will be interesting to see how the cloud plays a factor in this gen.

Can I play TLOU on PC? Master race my as a matter of factions.

Isn't it obvious? While the X1 and PS4 struggle to reach 1080p, let alone run anything at 60FPS, the WiiU will continue to improve until it starts providing 4k resolutions running at 120FPS. Given the current trend, I expect this to occur somewhere around Zelda U as the growth is impossible to ignore:

Pikmin 3 (720/30) -> 3DWorld/MK8/Toad/Splatoon (720/60) -> Smash (1080/60) -> some extrapolation -> Zelda U (4k, 120)

Now, how this is happening? I'm not quite sure, but I suspect that Iwata has hired an army of Pikmin that work by night and upgrade our WiiU's while we sleep.

Smash can get away with 1080P/60fps because it's not pushing a ton of assets at once, it's not a big sprawling world littered with objects, it's a small constrained box.
So the assets the game does have can be of above-average quality, such as character models, resolution and framerate, Nintendo's fantastic art style helps a ton too as it can hide a ton of flaws in things like texture resolution.

Yes, essentially only because in comparison, the PC has "infinite" performance/resources compared to consoles, it's constantly getting faster and faster, today you can have a PC that's 10x faster than a Playstation 4, easily enough. - The only real limitation is your wallet and technological progression.

It also helps that developers have intimate knowledge of the PC as a platform, the hardware architecture has not really changed as radically as consoles. (I.E. From x86 to PowerPC.) it's more of a slow evolutionary change that's abstracted via updated software, so there is no real learning curve.

Most game Engines also usually start off with being built for the PC first and foremost as it's the platform they are designed, built and tested upon, so PC gamers benefit from that, Frostbite being a prime example.

TLOU will probably be on PC soon, without the need for having it ported. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RPCS3
The better question is, could the Playstation 3 ever play Star Citizen?

What? Reread my post and then ask yourself: "Why did I take this seriously?"

I knew you weren't being serious.

The 720p/1080p argument is so stupid. I swear, it's like anyone tries to find something to nag about and make any company look rubbish.

Nothing.  That "Certain" console will just recieve the same games in 720p.

No one will ever ban you if you say PS4 is the most powerful console this gen and XOne is an inferior piece of hardware compared to PS4, and in some cases will limit the PS4 version because of paid parity.

The very good developers will try to push both PS4 and XOne, and you will have 1080p always on PS4, but not always on XOne. Look at  Dragon Age Inquisition by Bioware.  ''It’s already a well known fact that the game runs at 1080p on the PlayStation 4 and 900p on the Xbox One. This immediately gives rise to a superior image quality on the PlayStation 4. Having said that only keen eyes will notice the difference. During our play through, the PlayStation 4 version was very smooth with no lag in frame rate during the initial battles. The Xbox One version, although keeps it steady on most occasions does lag a bit when the action gets heavy. It’s not a show stopper and most users won’t even notice it.''

Bioware, unlike Ubisoft, are serious developers who do care about putting some effort to push any hardware, and the difference is there. Of course it's not a difference between night and day between PS4 and XOne for Dragon Age, it's a cross gen game. But still, PS4 version in the only console version running at 1080p, and it also performs better than XOne, which runs at 900p !

As long as dev don't go out of their way to favour the console with less sales and weaker gpu you will see some graphic difference (even if resolution is the same) so no need to worry. And if you think a company is bsing then don't buy the product.

Also GTAV looks way better on PS4 compared to XOne. The very good developers will always do a better version for PS4, for obvious reasons, and 1080p is guaranteed.
