Forums - Gaming - If certain consoles can't acheive 1080p now, what happens in a couple years?

In a couple of years I'd like to see open world games at 1080P 60FPS. SO GTA 6 in like 3 years for example.

Yes consoles. Many games already do 1080P 30FPS, even a graphical beast like Infamous: Second Son.

Do you not think when developers are making their 2nd or 3rd game on the PS4 they could hit that? Or do you think that is PS5 kinda stuff?

It should certainly become more frequent, or high variables should at least (1080p/50-60fps). We can already runs games like inFamous:FL at 1080p/40fps(avg), so give it a few years and games of a slightly higher visual level should't have much of an issue hitting 60fps-ish.

1080p/30fps will most likely remain the standard 'high end' choice though.

If certain people care about graphics so much why don't they play there games on pc

What happens? What happens already now, people who care 1080 playing games on PC and pray consoles don't dumb down games again sadly they already do...

They already do? Talk like that just makes you sound ignorant. Here, have some info and make of it what you will. Taken from Steam.

  • ~50% of Steam users are using less 4GB of CPU RAM or less
  • ~88% are using CPUs with 4 cores or less
  • ~75% are using GPUs with less than 2GB or RAM
  • ~95% are using monitors/displays with 1080p or less
But somehow, consoles (PS4/XB1) are limiting PCs? I think some PC gamers aren't actually being very realistic. They don't seem to realize that even within their platform they are a very vocal minority. They seem to take what is "possible" with PCs as the norm. But thats all so far from the truth its not even funny.

No it makes you ignorant, I never stated that all PC gamers care about graphics.  I stated that people who care about graphics will play on PC.

Also you just think about power but it is also about limitations and restrictions.

A game like Minecraft (that almost everyone steam user can play according to the stats) has infinite worlds on pc but not on PS4/XBO because they can't handle it.  The consoles have restrictions on the size of save files (possible because of the Skyrip big save file issues) that hurts the experience of Minecraft on consoles. That is also why we see console gamers getting MC on PC and not coming back to the console version because it feels so downgraded.

I know very well that if MC was made for consoles first and it would have not infinite worlds and get ported on PC it would also have not infinite worlds...If I then stated the game is downgraded on PC you would come up with that steam report and tell me most PC gamers don't have a system that is stronger than PS4/XBO so only an idiot would think MC would be made on PC with infinite worlds because only the minorty can handle it...:(.

At this moment games are meant for consoles that will be restricted/downgraded in different ways because fo the save file size issue. Those games if ported to pc will hardly see an upgrade....

Generally speaking weaker hardware will have to make some compromises, there is no amount of patching that will fix this.

Now, I find the developers to be the main issue with their choices of settings, at least for the PS4, my PC has a comparable GPU to it (a single 2GB Radeon 7850) and I play everything in 1080p with a mix of high/ultra settings depending on the game, I can even put some AA in there too... and I like to play at or near 60fps (around 45 fps is what I consider acceptable) ..

a clear example is Far Cry 4, I run it pretty well at close to 60fps, it looks amazing! I don't see why Ubisoft locked down the PS4 version to 30, there is no reason for this to be... especially with all that "custom hardware optimizations" supposedly going on (which I doubt happens much on multi-platform titles, especially those from big publishers like Ubi, and EA, Activision seems less shitty as far as this goes).

Now, I have not tried the PS4 version, but I know that I never once played a 30fps version of a console game that had a PC version and with what I have seen the PS4 do in titles like Killzone:SF, Infamous:SS, Thomb Raider:DE, etc. I have no intention of making that compromize, the machine can handle really nice graphics and tons of action at decent frame rate and resolution, there is no technical basis behind the compromise on it... so as it is, the PS4 is mostly a machine I use for exclusives and the good ports when they happen (wolfenstein, thomb raider, tlou are examples of this).

I will not talk about other consoles, my guess is, if you do like GTA V and remove a few objects tone the AA down a bit, etc. it will play in 1080p just fine.

By the end of the generation if they really want to make a huge graphic step games will have to be displayed at 720p or even under hd because of PS4/X1 low end hardware.

I think its a shame that 8 gen consoles dont play 1080p easily. High end PCs are already capable of 4 times that, 4k. Im playing at 2K and its completely different than playing in 720p. In 3 or 4 years the PC will be miles away from this consoles graphic quality wise. And better resolution and more fps is always a good thing. Otherwise we would still be playing Doom II or NES games.
That said, that doesnt make a game better, most games I like most arent the best ones quality wise or resolution wise, examples, Half Life series, Bioshock, Last of US, Creativity, playability and good stories are what developers should work for. And besides my great PC, I have GTA V and Far Cry4 for PS4 waiting for me to play them while laying on the bed.
I dont understand why people is always saying that they prefer to play good games than graphics, its a different thing. Every one should prefer good games before graphics, but If you really dont care about graphics, go play with PS1 or on board graphics PC from 5 years ago. If graphics were not important nobody would be buying PS4 instead of keeping PS3. And they already sold 13000000.

I took a nearly 20 year break with gaming and the only thing that is keeping in this is the graphics. Call me what ever you want, but beautiful real HD is what makes me happy. It is the future of games to advance with it. I believe it could be summed up like this:

Graphics is our Right foot and game play is our Left foot.

We are doing the splits with gaming now and it's hurting the bussiness and it has become painful to play.

Looks like PC chimed in with their oppinions in this thread. I respect them but trying to destroy the consoles really shoots yourselfs in the foot. I could go PC but it is more money into it and nothing that would justify that return in its experiance with the price of it all.
