Forums - Gaming - If certain consoles can't acheive 1080p now, what happens in a couple years?

I think all console can do 1080p but devs prefer sacrifice 1080p and 60fps for graphics

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

The bigger the game is and how good the graphics are, wil determine how much juice there is left to push it to a certain Resolution.

if a Ps4 game is limited to 720p and are still maxed out with game size and graphics. the XB1 would be Sub-HD. around 480p or something if it is a clean port from the Ps4 version. If not? both games will be 720p with a overall graphical superiority on the Ps4.

which proves to me that they will rather sacrifce Graphics to keep the games above Sub-HD.  If games happens to get bigger, i am not suprised by a downgrade in Resolution. the XB1 will always be 720p and Ps4 will end up with 900p. the XB1 will hold games back around a 2 years time from now. which again will hold PC even more back in terms of graphics.  If consoles doesn't die out this gen, there will be a new gen in a 4 years time. I am sure microsoft will push out a new XB before a new Ps5. just because microsoft wishes to stay on top and a early launch might give them an advantage

In a couple of years I'd like to see open world games at 1080P 60FPS. SO GTA 6 in like 3 years for example.

It's be possbile but it wouldn't look much better than what we have now with GTAV.

Of course. Even PS3 or 360 could do 1080p with 60fps. But this limits your possibilities in making a game look way better than last-gen games. Look how many people said that Forza 5 looks almost like a lastgen title. It doesn't but it is 1080p60 and so devs got limited by the hardware. It could've looked even better in 1080p30.

My tv can't even play 720p properly, I don't really care. Fps's are another story.

You don't even have a 720P TV? What kind of a TV do you have?

I was thinking the same thing. My lil' sis is still rocking an old ghetto tube - we're going together to get her a new TV for the holidays.

New games should run at 1080p, however. 720p should only be resorted to if full-HD is causing framerate issues... which is another problem with this current generation of consoles. If developers on the Ps4 took their queue from Nintendo (and hired an art department), molding a visual style that accomodates the device that their software is running on, we would have absolutely stellar-looking games coming out of this gen.

And no, I don't mean that every game should look like "Mario 3D World," I'm talking about the expressive character/level designs we used to see accross the board that are now limited to "art" titles. My big beef with my Ps4 collection right now is how generic most of the titles look.

I think its a shame that 8 gen consoles dont play 1080p easily. High end PCs are already capable of 4 times that, 4k. Im playing at 2K and its completely different than playing in 720p. In 3 or 4 years the PC will be miles away from this consoles graphic quality wise. And better resolution and more fps is always a good thing. Otherwise we would still be playing Doom II or NES games.
That said, that doesnt make a game better, most games I like most arent the best ones quality wise or resolution wise, examples, Half Life series, Bioshock, Last of US, Creativity, playability and good stories are what developers should work for. And besides my great PC, I have GTA V and Far Cry4 for PS4 waiting for me to play them while laying on the bed.
I dont understand why people is always saying that they prefer to play good games than graphics, its a different thing. Every one should prefer good games before graphics, but If you really dont care about graphics, go play with PS1 or on board graphics PC from 5 years ago. If graphics were not important nobody would be buying PS4 instead of keeping PS3. And they already sold 13000000.

This has always been the case except for last gen when the consoles had cutting edge hardware, and even then they got surpassed by PC fairly quickly. I do agree that people's focus on graphics over quality of the game is a problem. But graphics should (and are, let's be honest) always improve because that helps with the immersion. The problem with certain developers today is that they are trying to push graphics and "immersion" at the expense of gameplay and even at the expense of playability. We need more people like Miyamoto who believes the game should be all about the enjoyment of the experience and sucking in the player instead of trying to be some huge blockbuster cinematic experience - that's what movies are for.

Seems like the video game world (excluding PC of course) won't even come close to being 4k when next gen hits and 4k tvs will be mainstreamed. Probably the games will just be able to achieve flawless 1080p/60fps .

...except games from Naughty Dog will be at 4k no problem of course ;P

Eventually, everything but Wii U will reach 1080p for multiplats, and Wii U doesn't get most multiplats anyway, so it won't matter in that respect. By late gen, even Wii U will start seeing 1080p on its exclusives. CoD 2020 though? It'll probably be cross gen with 9th gen, but yes it'll definitely manage 1080p on everything. 9th gen might start pushing Ultra HD resolution.

I don't want to get banned so I will not mention any consoles. Will multiplats be affected? I would hate to see games be limited because of one console or the other. How does this play out? Will COD 2020 look like COD 2015?

Anyone who cares about graphics owns a PC not a console. Its not worth their time optimizing console games cause its a waste of budget to go too far out of the way to make a few whiney bitches happy. Console owners know by buying weak unified hardware that they are paying for ease of use and not graphics.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't most games which start on consoles and get ported over to PC run better as well? It's not just about ease of use but also stability.

Ease of use touches on that. Console only folk dont have to update drivers or anything like that but it depends on the game. In the end due to patches from both the developer and community(and mods if you wish) any game worth a lick will run more stable on on PC. If this gen is any sign it looks like stability is usually equally bad across all platforms due to similar architecture.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I'm sure graphics will improve over the course of the gen on X1 as they did on last gen consoles.
