If certain consoles can't acheive 1080p now, what happens in a couple years?

I was thinking the same thing. My lil' sis is still rocking an old ghetto tube - we're going together to get her a new TV for the holidays.

New games should run at 1080p, however. 720p should only be resorted to if full-HD is causing framerate issues... which is another problem with this current generation of consoles. If developers on the Ps4 took their queue from Nintendo (and hired an art department), molding a visual style that accomodates the device that their software is running on, we would have absolutely stellar-looking games coming out of this gen. 

And no, I don't mean that every game should look like "Mario 3D World," I'm talking about the expressive character/level designs we used to see accross the board that are now limited to "art" titles. My big beef with my Ps4 collection right now is how generic most of the titles look.
