They'll make crazy profit off this just from the PS4 version. |
Sleeping Dogs - Dev:2008-2012, had budget issues before SQEX were involved, SQEX then had to pay Activision for publishing rights. PROFIT
Hitman Absolution - New engine to be used for PS4 and XBO generation, dev 2 years. No word on profit so I would say no, but with the engine in place cost of future games should be lower.
Tomb Raider - Developed between 08 and 13. PROFIT (prior to its next gen release might I add)
All of these came at a time when SQEX was struggling and needed big sellers so expectations from them were high. None of them could be made by 12-15 guys in 1-2 years on such a small budget.

Which is still a really easy target. |
Yeah, I have no idea why publishers let things get out of hand. Like I was looking at the credits to Infamous: Festival of Blood and there were so many useless people, and that was for a 15 dollar DLC game...

What's more, with game companies being companies as well as game designers, they're going to design games that will make them the most money possible, so we continually see elements from the top dudebro genre's creeping into series where it doesn't fit. Resident Evil 6 is a perfect example. The mainstream video game community is at an all time low in terms of game output and creativity, and the situation is made worse by the impending collapse of every major company due to the pressure to release larger and more profitable games. You want a new Dragon's Dogma? Too bad. Megaman isn't gonna grab the big bucks, don't waste time on it. F*ck Crash bandicoot and Jak and Daxter, we need more third person action adventure games because that's what sells to the dudebro epidemic. The only way the video game market is going to return to a more balanced place when the AAAs inevitably collapse and companies avoid becoming that bloated again, or we find a way to transmit AIDS through playing CoD. |
Why don't you make a thread regarding your concerns?
To OP: I really, really hope this succeeds. People in Japan have been doing this kind of B-tier work (like Compile Heart or Idea Factory or Koei Tecmo, or...the list goes on, really) for quite some time now.

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Or make multiple games of smaller budgets.

Just imagine the sales of Heavenly sword 2 with a copy of heavenly sword ported from ps3 to PS4 would do. (Like bayonetta, but then with huge sales).
Such a collection could sell above 2 million if it is advertised right, which is quite a lot for the genre, I hope it does well, ninja theorie need to join the Sony family, they sorta fit in quite well and the ps userbase likes ninja theorie. I see this game achieving a million lifetime due to it not being certain it is an exclusive and Sony doesn't have the right of the IP, (they should make sure it stays a Sony exclusive.)
Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar
I love Ninja Theory. I've loved all of their games that they've made thus far. Highly underrated. You've got my money if this game is good NInja! This is such a smart plan because they've never made it past that AAA threshold of sales. They really needed to readjust to survive. Kudos to them. If they even sell 400,000 copies over I'll be happy.
